Ok all my last stab at this, I appreciate all the help so far, and I'm new so I've been 'wittering' about this...anyway...here we go...I'll try explain better

1999 w208 320 clk auto

ABS ASC lights on ...but now and again go off.

D light doesn't always stay in sometimes flickers

Start up (funny clunk) as if popping in/out gear

Bit of a 'put..put..put' when in P

slight judder in D with foot on brake

On start up doesn't want to find gear just revs it's **** off

After a while it finds it's gear then drive ok

Sometimes lack of power power have to put foot down a bit, but still 'kicks in'

Changed transmission fluid no joy

Changed brake switch light no joy

Someone mentioned could be MAF but how do I check...

Anyway if anyone has anymore ideas I thank them in advance, just that I'm in halifax so not really near a star...and I enjoy the feedback from forums
If not, guess I'll be stumping up some cash to diagnostics...

Thanks in advance guys..

Steve,

I would get the car put on STAR, it will probably save a lot of your time and money in the long run. Long shot but could try disconnecting battery and resetting everything. When my MAF went if I took the car over about 4k rpm it would loose power sound like it wasn't running on all cylinders and it made the gearbox really confused, turn engine off and on then it would run great until revs went high again.

Agree qwith Jakup - get it to a trusted independent MB specialist that has a Star and knows these cars and then go from there.

On the face of it you appear to have 3 separate issues but it needs proper diagnosis.

thanks guys...i know it's what NEEDS doing, i was just being a tight northerner...would there be any point in taking the MAF out and having a quick clean...??

Not really, but won't do any harm

I wouldnt risk damaging your MAF - I dont think it has anything to do with your issues.

...i thought you could remove the MAF to at least have a look, didn't think they were so delicate,..

As per spike. The MAF is actually incredibly fragile, I wouldn't **** around cleaning it and fiddling with it.
