Bentley's wheel curbed..

I'm not sure I would do anything until the friend returned and give him the choice of solutions, at my expense of course.

OK - the wheel is priced at £625 plus VAT but the Parts guy agreed to do a 10% discount so that works out to be £562.50 plus VAT and wheel alignment will cost around £150. They have five wheels in stock and Stealership is near Chelsea/Vauxhall.

Diselman: He did say that the g/f could drive the car and we are both insured on it.

Kensalriser: If it was my car and someone had accidentally kerbed the wheel that I had loaned the car to then I would expect a brand new wheel and would not be happy with a refurb. I rather have the car looking how it was when he handed it over to me and at the same time tell him excatly what happened (as advised by you guys). Worse thing is to see your pride and joy damaged.

Hope it all gets sorted out.....

I'm inclined to agree with this, after all, by giving you and your GF permission to drive is always going to involve an element of risk to the car (as opposed to having it locked safely in a garage), how often have we read about members cars being damaged in car parks:crazy:

As someone else has mentioned, if it were my car, I would want to see the full extent of any damage, I would worry about whether any dents or scatches have touched etc Just my two peneth (as wifey kerbed my SLK a couple of weeks back:devil: ).

Regards

dagd

I do feel sorry for you Flash, that was one hell of an expensive 'loan car'. Good luck with the stealership.

Well if he wants to see the damage then he can see the kerbed wheel too BUT will have a brand spanking shiny new one as a replacement already fitted on the car… ;)

Reflexboy: Agree with you mate that it has turned out to be an expensive loan car but at least I will have one more enjoyable w/end with it and by Thursday should have the new wheel fitted and tracking/alignment checked and adjusted and all will be back to normal…. :)

Just try and book a night at a decent London hotel for less. ONE NIGHT ONLY, not a month or a share in the building as I first thought.

I'm with Mangoman, kensalriser and dagd on this one.

If I had lent my pride and joy to a mate who had accidentally damaged it, I think I would rather they came clean and agreed to pick up the tab with whatever I considered was necessary to fix the car.

For all you know, he might be contemplating 22" bling spinner hub wheels, and you damaging one would be an ideal opportunity to 'upgrade'. And I'm sure they wouldn't be £600-ish each! Also I would want a garage of my choice to check the tracking.

must be wheel and tyre time ...

sorry to hear about yours :(

ive just had to replace a 20" tyre on my x5 because of a stupid nail in the sidewall.. :( £345 or so .

The 2 piece alloy wheels on the car are actually upgrades from the factory/extra option and are not standard wheels.

Bentley Stealer does do not do the tracking/wheel alignment in house and sub contract it out to someone else.

I have been recommended a wheel alignment specialist who is very good and does all the top ends cars (Bentley, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes etc.) and he has been in the business for a long time.

If the Stealer was to accidentally kerb your wheel and replaced it with a brand new one and had a "specialist" do the tracking who is more “experienced” then the Stealer in house staff then I think that is reasonable.

£150 for tracking is going some.

Mind you I was ordering some parts at MB Hampstead yesterday and happened to see their service price list - I think it was £120 for a brake service. Now if that's not ripping the shit, I don't know what is.

I know its steep.... MB Stealers charge £250 plus at least for wheel alignment and most of them do not have the expertise to do it properly...! Some places even charge a fixed amount for inspection/minor adjustments and then extra for any other additional adjustments

I took a mates 124 E320 Coupe for alignment (the full works, camber, castor etc) to Elite in Rainham in Essex for the front only on Sat .. it was £105!!!!

Well…. what can I say…

The Bentley that I have been given to look after /borrow whilst its owner is away I had taken up to West Yorks over w/end to a wedding. Because I had a bit to drink on Saturday evening I let the g/f drive the Bentley back yesterday noon as a precaution in case the alcohol would still be present in my blood over the legal limit (even though I was fully sober).

Well… she curbed the near side front alloy wheel but to be fair it was a tight narrow road. I bit my tongue and did not yell or say anything to her about the wheel what so ever. I’m now going to replace the wheel with a brand new OEM wheel as it is only fair as I am not a fan of refurbs and am not planning on saying anything when I hand the car back but will get the tracking done again as well by a specialist just to make sure all is ok even though it was very minor impact at low speed and all appears to be fine.

Was a great w/end apart from the wheel curbing incident but apart from that she drove the car pretty well and I was well impressed wit her driving/confidence of car like this. :)

You are very generous.....towards your girlfriend !!!! Me, well I would have seen my ****, bollocked her, made her pay, and certainly wouldnt praise her driving skills !!!!...She must be some looker ......
Good Luck with your friend.......( friend for now ! ) :)

:)

I was fuming inside but managed to hold the anger/frustration and gave her the silent treatment for a bit instead...;)

Its my Dad's cousins car (like a second uncle) - will be intresting to see his reaction but I'm hoping that becasue the damaged wheel will have been replaced he will be a bit more calmer. At first I was not going to say anything...:o

Update - new alloy wheel has been fitted (carefully done and not a single mark/blemish on it) and wheel/aligment/tracking done as well. There was not much adjustment needed apart from the toe which was out and in the specialist's opinion the car was probably delivered like that from factory/stealer but everything else camber etc. were spot on and the kerbing incident had not knocked the settings or done any damage to any other related components.

Car is now perfect again and I no longer feel sick looking at the previously damaged wheel. :)

Presuamably the new wheel makes the other wheels look rubbish in comparison now? ;)

Cars is approximatey just under 2 months old so match is good as the other 3 wheels are immaculate.

After a few mins of driving the brake dust will I'm sure would take care of it...;) :)
