My thinking was that we come up with something that would help us all (old and new members) to remember Derek, and maybe pause for a few seconds to think about him? I guess, if we have an annual award that is recycled every year with the intention of making us all think about Derek for a few seconds, we have achieved the goal.

He was an engineer at heart, who wore his heart on his sleeve and was not afraid to state his feelings, many of us will have been on the receiving end of his wisdom. He was also generous and thoughtful, always happy to help others at any time.

I am not the arbiter here and Benz on the Green are putting the hard miles on this. I just thought, it is great event that Derek supported and enjoyed so a fitting place to award a "winner"

A Best Modification could be fun (in engineering terms) and could range from the sublime to the ridiculous (Who has used string to operate their windscreen wipers?)

Fire away with your thoughts. Thank you to Tascha, Olly and all the Team at PCS for stepping in and taking this on.

I have given his some thought (scary) and discussed with a couple of Derek's closed friends.

What do people think here.

* We want to have a pause to reflect and think on our friend, his values, knowledge and fantastic spirit, that was there for us all 24x7.
* Do we need a physical trophy?

1. That needs managing year on year.
2. What would be appropriate?

* Some fine words on the day to the assembled crowd along with a 'moments applause, celebration, silence'. Words that help us to reflect on what Derek was about. This way we all actualy pause and think about Derek?
* A Certificate to the 'winner' that celebrates 'DRUK the man' and can be recreated each year, with the existing one being retained by it's worthy winner?

So, what are your thoughts here? let's here them.

The idea of a Saltire, on all the cars is proving very popular. I like the idea of a celebration in Tartan, with owners being as creative as they wish in how they deck out their cars.

Hi Bruce,

I have ordered a 'trophy' , a 'Druk' award for the best modifciation and have asked Dereks nephew to pick the first winner. This is one we will have every year from now on. The saltire/decoration on the cars is a fantastic idea and perhaps we could get photos of them all at points during the day and make an album. We will definitely raise a glass and I will speak to the compare about this, I would do it myself but I am utterly useless at speaking in public.....more than happy for someone brave (hint hint Bruce) to do this if you would like...

To everybody who is attending on the day. Just a gentle reminder, we would like all cars to be adorned (somewhere) with a Scottish Saltire or, Tartan in a salute and tribute, to our great friend Derek (DRUK). The hope is that we can get some great pictures of this display and send them to Derek's family.

Face painting will be available on the day for those who forget to bling up their cars. The password for entry shall be FREEDOM.

I agree that an award for modding is a good idea and I think would have appealed to the man. As it is unlikely (I think) that any private owner would be able to match the extent of Derek's own modifications, it might be an idea to keep things in a light-hearted vein as I would imagine this would also appeal to his sense of humour. For example, his pedestrian / cyclist / tailgater modification to the washer system:
