Hi ,

i think most mercedes benz are equipped with stiens shocks but what if the shocks go bad and you need to replace them ? which one should one buy to get the most comfort ?

i for one own a C200 ( W203/M271 ) and according to my Vin , it says my car is equipped with sports suspension , i wanna go comfort all the way and i was wondering which one to buy , i talked to belstiens and they are offering the B6 Shocks for most comfort while the oems which i think comes with most mercs are the b4s.

Also i was wondering if i need a new set of springs for comfort as well or the shocks will do the trick ?

Edit : posted it in the wrong Section , can the admin plz move it . thanks.

I am not sure about the Bilsteins, but...

I am actually with you one this one as I too want comfort from my W203 rather than flat cornering ability and paint-on wheels...

Depending on your trim, i.e. Classic / Avantgarde / Sport etc, the car may be lowered, and shorter suspension travel means less comfort. Same goes for low-profile tyres.

The best comfort is probably from the Classic with 205/55x16 7J tyres/rims (inflated to the lower figure of the pressure range).

Mine is a sport , i am using 205/55/16 as well but my oems are either not working properly/stiff or the springs in it are stiffer , i was hoping to change both if needed to get the ultimate comfort.

i also run the car for races and i have my coilovers kept aside for the event but when the event is not happening , i want my Mercedes to be a Mercedes :)

For most of comfort go for Merc stuff. Maybe choose different trim but so many times "aftermarket" options are a compromise for comfort. Unless like markjay said and you looking for lowering your car but then forget about comfort.

so the best setup is to go for classic suspension , will they just carry shocks or the springs as well ?

also was wondering is i can buy them off 3rd party if i knew the make...

Comfort is the sum of springs, shocks and tyres.

If you change the shocks you should also swap the springs. Go for MB Elegance springs and shocks for comfort. Quite cheap from MB and the only way to ensure you get the correct spring rate for the car's options
