I know there maybe loads of threads on this forum about my question but i would like to ask nonetheless, whats the best and correct way to clean my car. I do the 2 bucket method and use a micro fibre mit and the normal Auto Glym and Meguiars products but what would people say is the best way to start cleaning my car and finish it, what products should i use which process should i follow etc etc?

Start by giving it a thorough hosing to remove loose contaminants.
Finish it with a wipe over with detailing spray.

I use a hose, and an old sponge...once a year, whether it needs it or not. Being a bank holiday I might do it today.

babyblueCE - there are lots of great guides and far too much OCD over at Detailing World (yes, a very large and active community about washing one's car...).

Exec summary, mandatory bits (IMO) in bold:

  • hose
  • foam & hose again
  • wash with 2 bucket method
  • clay and wash again
  • dry
  • polish (e.g. AUtoglym SRP)
  • wax

Start by giving it a thorough hosing to remove loose contaminants.
Finish it with a wipe over with detailing spray.

Many of us will not be permitted to use a hose after 5 April......make sure you have got your car clean and de-salted as best as possible BEFORE the Easter break.

We have a very funky ARC wash near us. Lots of cool blue colour change lights, looks very snazzy.

Still wouldn't put my car through it though!

Damn that detailing world site is madness! Might have to spend the best part of my rest days scouring through that website. I had a look at polished bliss also that had a pretty good step by step guide, thanks for the recommendations :thumb:!

Two buckets, wash mitts, clay bars etc etc seems like a lot of money and overkill, but after buying a house and getting divorced. Buying a car is probably the most money you'll spend in one go, so looking after it must be worth it, simples.
