Hi All

Need to get a set of disks and pads for my 96 500Sl as my rear N/S disk has a crack down the middle of it....which is nice

anyone know what the best choice is ??

is it standard set or after market (drilled / vented etc)

also thinking about dropping it 35/40mm is this worth while and whats the best kit or is it best to not mess with what is lets be honest pretty much perfection ??

best places to buy / prices etc, etc all suggestions welcome.....

EBC has a good reputation for brakes, so why not see if they have the parts available for your car? A friend 'in the know' has told me that cracks from the drilled holes are common, so he now uses the EBC ones that are only grooved - says they work just as well.

Brakes

I have fitted Brembo OEM spec discs to my R129 SL500 the fronts were £120 for the pair, rear were £59 from my local parts shop when they were doing a Brembo promotion.

I have been quite happy with the braking ability - I like the look of the cross drilled stuff but in all hoesty I do not hammer my brakes and the extra cost and pad wear is not worth it for me.

I went back to the shop and fitted Brembos to my wifes Mini Cooper as well !

I would go to Merc and buy the standard setup discs and pads from them. Unless you're into track-days and all that what's the point in aftermarket whoopeedoo brakes other than they look good in the pub carpark.
This is deffo a case of 'daddy knows best'. :thumb::)

And, imho, a dropped 129 looks plain daft.

Hi

That looks pretty nasty...what discs are they??

As per member "Macabethiel" Get Brembos..you cant go wrong with the Brembos...and use the money you saved on some EBC greenstuff pads.

Thanks for the info guys.....

not sure on the current make as they came with the car......

also not sure on the drop which is why i thought a 35mm would be ok as all it really does is stiffen up the suspension a little rather than stick the **** end on the ground which i agree just looks a little to pimp for me....

Hi

I'm not too familiar with the R129 SL500 suspension..but was there 2 types? standard and self levelling front/rear?

you can lower the standard suspension by 30mm..I would use the H & R Springs.

cheers Mazza,

also just purchased a set of Brembo discs and Redstuff Ceramic Pads all round will let everyone know how well they perform.....

also anyone got any idea if i need to get the EBC wear sensors or use standard ??

Hi how did you get on with the brembo discs and pads? Did you replace the sensors too?

The yellow dash light next to the handbrake light flashes when I brake but haven't checked for front rear pads and discs so not sure what I need yet but I was looking at the Etc stuff as I used to use the pads on my 350z.
