Dad has not driven for a while has just come back to Bolton after a dozen years in Belfast.

Now wants a car [my car actually] what is the best way to insure a '98 C280 Sport for a pensioner[he's 66] who has 0years no claims. Won't do much mileage just pottering locally maybe the odd trip out. maybe 3-4-5k.

I was thinking classic insurance and he's thinking Saga/Age Concern

can't get classic car insurance for a '98 can you?

My dad is with an insurance company for over 50's, the problem with that is that they won't insure anyone on the car unless they are over 50.

My dad is with a company called Rias, give them a go.

I thought I would be able to sort it - a '98 is twelve years old after all

I would help...but he's left Belfast...hmmph.

Classic insurance may be an option, but he's only 66 and might want to build some no claims bonus for the future.

This is one of those scenarios where a lot of ringing around is a good idea - you just need to get a quote through a broker with the right underwriter at the right time. A C280 with Nil NCB is normally going to be pricey - but if you get the quote at a time when the Underwriter is looking for business for that particular risk profile they will offer a reasonable quote.

The usual suspects, in no particular order, are :-
Haggerty, Adrian Flux, Footman James, NFU or Ecclesiastical.

My mother is insured via Age Concern and has received favourable quotes and service from them. Although not applicable in your case, they are one of the very few insurers who will still accept new business from the over 80 year olds!

Thanks to Jeff and the Gang - sorted with Peter Best at a third of the price of the mainstream insurerers
