Best place to go for a MB star reader

There are various things I would like to do to my car but without the MB star computer I can't (change brakes ect). Does any one have any ideas were to get one system cheaply that could do things like this without going down the chinese or e-bay route.

It is possible to service brakes without Star, even an official option but Star is needed for quite a few other tasks, mainly diagnosis. If you cannot get the official Star and/or if you feel it is too expensive (I'd be surprised if you didn't, in that case you would not need it anyway), I cannot see any other option than some copy products. Not a lot of discussion about those in this forum, I guess because all infringe the MB rights in some way. What sort of budget were you considering?

600 ish. One of the main reasons for getting it , is every time the car goes for a service (stealer or independent) the dash readout is wrong or buttons that used to say what they were doing (on the dash) now don't. Then its the time wasted going back and getting it fixed.

I havent got one for mine but had a Nanocom for my last disco cost just over £200 sold for just under £200 a year or so later, point being you should get nearly all your money back when sold and you save a bundle in not going to the dealers.
Very interesting as well what you can learn.
