Hi,

I have a set of bixenon headlights from an 2004 vehicle. On my current halogen headlights I can see it has 2 connectors where as the bi xenons have 3.

Is there a way to rewire the connectors or will I need a new loom?if rewire, does anyone have access to a wiring diagram.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I can't help with your question as both our CLKs have factory fit Xenons I am sure someone will be along shortly to answer your question Edd

Are you referring to the actual bulb? Or the ballast?

As a general rule, you do not need to change the physical wiring loom, instead you reprogram the function of the existing wires using STAR, see also:

How to set Xenon = Present in STAR Diagnostic System - Mercedes-Benz Forum

No I'm referring to the actual headlight its self. Yeah it will need recording via star but the bi xenons have 3 connectors where as the current headlight base 2 connectors so I'm wondering how I would go about using the current wiring to wire up the new headlights.

On my current lights I have just 1 main connector and on the bi xenons theres 3. Can someone please explain the other two? The passenger side has 2 connectors on the bi xenon, one being the power.

Are those for the level sensors? I connected the power cable and the xenons worked without any flicker, so is it okay to leave the others out ?

I have the picture of the back of the xenon

Remix, I will go out to the car this morning (still in bed with my coffee) and look at my connectors.
You would need to manually adjust their beam I guess (there are adjusters on top of them) and you wouldn't have the auto height adjusters as I assume yours won't have the sensors fitted to the suspension. I'll get back to you later.

Is it a good idea to bit a strong focused beam of light to the front of your car without the self-levellers and washer system? Isn't it an MoT fail?

Pretty sure it's having a working washer system for the mot. If your Ar doesn't have one standard, that's not an mot failure. (could be wrong)

If that model/year was optioned with bi-xenons then it will need to have working washers and self leveling. The MoT database will flag this up to the tester?
The extra connection is for the auto leveling motors loom.
So you will need the extra loom to connect with the level sensors and the headlamps.
Physically the headlamps are a straight swap but there's a lot of extra wiring, control module and coding required. Never mind the auto leveling sensors and washer conversion....

Just checked the tester's manual and they are now required test the manual headlamp adjuster, so you will have to change the main light switch on the dash to the correct one for xenons or you'll fail when the pneumatic halogen adjuster doesn't work when tested..

The car has washers, the power connector was connected and the xenons worked without any flicker, I am not sure if it has the wiring for the auto leveling sensors, but I'm sure this can be manually adjusted from the headlights.

Since I have no flicker I wouldnt need to reprogram it?

Also, we can rule out the second connector being the auto leveling, but what about the third that's only on the driver side headlight? Control unit? What would the control unit be for?

Just to confirm, the power cable should be fine ?

Hmm, I do have one of those just need to change the cover to black.

The SAM will need to be told it now has xenons or it will report a lamp failure. Mine didn't flicker for quite a while before starting.
The offside headlamp has the connector for the level control. The other connector goes to the nearside lamp to synchronise the levels.
The tester may be looking for the headlamps to do their up/down movement at start up. Without the leveling system working you will be dazzling other drivers..

Another car with blinding, badly focused headlights

To be fair they will be focused, the OP is retro-fitting OEM bi-xenons. Just needs the auto leveling..

They're original bi xenons, in terms of leveling it isnt really required once properly leveled. Wont be blinding anyone,

Just to confirm, I do not need to rewire the existing power cable? I tried it and it works just fine. I will recode the SAM

The self-levelling is a legal requirement (regardless of whether you actually blind anyone or not when your car is loaded or you have 5 people in the car etc). You may, however, get away with it if the MOT tester doesn't spot that it's missing, and same goes for the headlamp washers.

On another note, don't forget to declare the mod to your insurer.

What's the purpose of the control unit? Is that for the leveling ?
