Biker jailed for son's 122mph ride!!

As I understand it from the various reports on the case that have been published, the rider was charged with Dangerous Driving not Exceeding the Speed Limit. He also plead guilty to the charge (exactly why is not clear from the reports I have read), so the precise speed is actually irrelevant and the only matter the Court needed to consider was the punishment it was going to apply.

Assuming for a moment that, "the camera does not lie".

What would have been a safe speed on that road at that time?

Perhaps bearing in mind that the slightest anomaly could have catapulted the rider and passenger into the vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

My contention is that anything above 40mph could be considered unwise in the prevailing conditions, as judged by the video.

Presumably because that's a stiffer penalty award and they could make it stick.
Even at 122mph he wouldn't be 'clinked' for 6 months.

I would suspect that was the case, but what's intriguing is why he didn't contest the charge, bearing in mind that on conviction he stood a good chance of sharing a shower with "Bubba".

Maybe he just came to his senses, I hope so as motorcycle enthusiasts don't really need another "rogue biker" etc... story.

That's all this case is really, just another story. Keeps some people's minds of the really important issues though.

It'll be interesting to see what the sentence ends up being in this superficially similar case. A bit strange that the Recorder "wanted to know how it [his choice of sentence] would affect his [Sgt Bannister's] career"

I agree it will be interesting, and your second sentence suggests that something was awry.

This reported bit was horrifying!
During the trial prosecutor Michael Hammett had told the court: "Conditions were appalling. There was heavy rain, lots of spray and standing water on the carriageway".
"Bannister's car showed he'd been travelling at 122mph before slowing to 115mph when he hit the water and began aqua-planing".

Having read the whole article I can only assume that Sgt. B's judgement was pretty clouded about 4 wheel capability that particular day.

Another Devon biker sent to prison.
This guy got 10 months after being clocked at 95mph and failing to stop. Having no license, insurance, MOT and an unroadworthy bike didn't help his case

He was over 140 on some parts of that video - car was travelling at that and he was pulling away.
