Billy's W124 Coupe Project

Billy......just read this from start to finish and it is a fantastic job that has been done. I look forward to seeing the finished car and hopefully I can have a little spin in it....:thumb:

Sure mate no problems! I was behind it whilst going to get it tracked and i can assure you it moves alright!

...Our Carat 3.6 certainly gave me a teaser of what it can do, spinning the rears off the junction keeping a staight track whilst turning right was one of them! (I wont be doing this though!)

I`m not falling for it

That's going to be the famous quote which will go right out the window when he starts taking a liking to that 3.2! lol

Billy, after I had that 3.2 put in, for a short time the risk factor of my license went through the roof!

Wheels have arrived!

Great job!

Looking good mate.......just a week too late ;)

That W203 van of yours is well handy..:D

Tell you what mate, I'm really impressed with the 203 coupe. We've had it for nearly 3 years now and hasn't slipped up (touch wood).

Its a great runner for trips long and short distances and covers them well.

The amount of stuff you can fit into the back once the seats fold is actually very surprising - a very practical motor. to give folks an idea, One trip back from Simon's I had in the back:

1. 4x set of 124 8 hole alloys with tyres
2. 4x set of 124 door cards
3. 124 back seat bench
4. 124 back seat squab
5. Box full of various bits and pieces
6. Any thing i could squeeze in between gaps!

Its helped by having a very high square boot opening,as you describe very van like. :thumb:

Billy those wheels are looking nice mate, what have you had done to them? Diamond cut and dipped?

Pity the car missed last weekend, would have loved to see all that work.

it truly is a labour of love, all credit to you and all involved.

regards, R.

thanks mate,

Yes they had been stripped, painted in Merc Platinum silver with the rim edges diamond cut and lacquered.

They had to be re done (which is why it took a week longer) as the paint reacted with the diamond cut on edges on the alloys.

The wheels are looking good man! Its a shame it wasnt done in time for the ace cafe meet. Be good to see it at Jays GTG.

Differences

Bit bored tonight so thought i'd post the difference in front ends - before and after.

Imo, the end result gives a much more bulkier look, The amber's play a big part in breaking up the front end nicely, especially on a darker colour. The washwipes finish off the standard look. Thinking to go amber on the rears too.

The clock does more work!

Ever since i was a kid, i was fascinated by the Econ guage found in the early mercs. I thought it was a cool guage and always wanted to put one on my coupe, and so now i have! The clock does more than this thing in terms of the mechanism, but what the heck its a cool thing - fed by a single vacumn line only. Fills up the gap nicely in there.

We used a darker shade of orange model paint for the Econ needle,as these guages were yellow rather than orange in early cars. Swapped the other 3 needles from another cluster to keep in line with the rest of the speedo. I need to repaint it to match the rest.

..Just able to make out the newly fitted cruise control and its stalk in the second pic too :)

In the first pic imagine wood grain in the vertical parts of the heater vents...

Looking awesome billy. You should be proud of what you have achieved.

Two requests please:

1. Side on picture with the new wheels on.
2. Bolts - what are you or have you done re your wheel bolts- are they new or have you painted them?

Cheers. Scott

Really looking good Billy, have you considered all red rear lights for the rear end, think they would look great against the blue paint!

nice to see you've got the cruise fitted at last, mine is still all in a box in the cellar waiting for the day.
