Bilt Hamber Auto Foam Issue Panoramic Trim
Used MJCC cannon and diluted correctly. Front trim on panoramic roof now looks like a carbon trim (a mess). Cool day not dried on, washed off within a few min. Both cars have pano roof and look the same. Any ideas?

Other issues night pack around windows is oxidising and seats splitting and rubbing off so the car looks a mess. MB having none of it all wear (really). GLC 2016 50k.

Before after image.

Try clay barring it

That front panoramic roof panel is plastic and I suspect it reacted differently to your wash than the rest of the car.
On my 2016 W205 it delaminated and I eventually had it re sprayed, apparently quite common problem..
There is a thread about delamination on here.

Thanks, just odd both cars looked ok no issues with delam. Used the solution and looks awful.

Window trim is another issue but that was already an issue. Shocking and MB say it’s car wash chemicals yet I wash my own cars. Both cars were under 50k miles and the seats split. Sick of MB never again.

If the marks won’t remove from the Panoramic trim with a microfibre cloth and detailing spray, then it might be etched in to the surface.

have some similar etch marks on some aluminium trim - ironically done by a pro detailer but on a warm but not hot Spring day - and the only thing I have found which helps is Gyeon Preserve (link below).

It starts showing through and three washes or a month -ish and so needs to be reapplied, however a very light coat in a single wipe is all it takes.

The solution is the issue then surely?

I'd be trying to polish it with a compound.

The black trim staining is due to wash chemicals which are too aggressive / harsh. Usually these are TFR products.

Bilt hamber auto foam might not be caustic but it's still alkaline at pH 13.

A normal wash shampoo wouldn't have caused that. In fact it doesn't, my cars trims are fine but I don't use anything apart from a pH neutral foam and wash shampoo

I’ve asked BH to comment. I was so careful to make sure the dose was correct. Annoying because I see comments that suggest it’s impossible to damage to car even when neat (comment from BH).

That panel is a common issue with all w205 pan roof models. I had mine wrapped for £30 but it wasn't even that bad.. another w205 was parked up and the panel on that looked in awful condition!

I guarantee it won't be the bilt hamber. I used bilt hamber products myself..

You could try a water spot remover like koch chemie FSE which will definitely remove leftover water marks but that panel has a plastic film on top of the glass and is prone to peeling so best to get it vinyl wrapped..

Agreed. I had mine resprayed at £140 by a local garage who is known to be good but cheap. Apparently because it’s plastic it requires special paint. It looked good afterwards though and when I sold it a couple of months later it didn’t attract any attention.

I know about the issue but it’s not (im sure it will happen though). Confident because I took a pic before and after on both cars. Only reacted with that front part rest of car it’s done a great job.

It looks good for the rest of the car just that front part that seems to have reacted on both cars. It was ok before.

It's not delamination. Delamination looks like cracking and crazing on the surface with bits coming off.

Yours looks like it's been etched, as in chemical staining /etching which probably is caused by the Bilt hamber unless you've been using something else like a tar remover or fallout remover

Yes, before nothing wrong and used first use it look a mess. Painful we have two with panoramic roofs and both same.

Bilt Hamber suggested it’s UV damage that has made the trim susceptible. UV degradation, the surface de-polymerises and creates a loose structure that when wetted by detergents designed to lift particles (auto-foam) sheds and is left patchy. It's lack of UV stabilisation in the trim.

Nothing wrong with both cars prior to use. Product is supposed to be safe to use on vehicles. On advise liability is with the manufacturer and I foresee this not being resolved quickly. We have a barrister advising to get 3 quotes to replace the trim and engage a lab to repeat the process and provide an analysis that the chemical caused the reaction. A letter has been sent to MB technical but MB have stated it was ok before the product was applied.

The night pack oxidising and seat splitting is with MB dealer and a section 75 has been raised.
