Has anybody tried running their car on vegi oil?
Do MB's do well on it or not?

MB indirect engines are the most tollerant engine for veg oil and are bio ready.

I am considering fitting a proper single tank vegoil system right now but am a bit put off that HMRC want the full rate of duty (49p) for vegoil but only (29p) for biodoiedel.

I was going to do this this w/e but it's on the back burner again now due to the cost of the oil.

With vegoil at 50ppl it's actually more expensive than pump diesel but I might do it anyway for the Co2 issue.

I wouldn't be tempted to run illegally as HMRC are very aware of this and are likely to crush your car if caught.

If you have access to free WVO and can clean it and make it PH neutural then you're laughing all the way to the bank.

I must admit i was tempted, but no i'll stick to BP ultimate as this seems to be her favorite tipple.
Thanks. Paul.

Cheers janner,
have had a mooch at the links and will be making a large purchase from http://www.expressbiofuels.co.uk
in the next week or so, as they are just up the road from me, so free delivery;););)

I've ordered and will have mine tomorrow so we'll see how it goes then.

I was going to convert to vegoil but with the duty at full rate it's more expensive than pump diesel so doesn't make much sence but I do want to reduce my carbon footprint so the biodiesel will help there.

Paulthecabbie, I would be interested to hear what your car smells like when on Biodiesel without the cat.

Yeah me too, KFC more than likely.
running on normal diesel the smell is very faint so hopefully i'll get similar results with the bio, heres hoping anyway.
i'll let you know.

p.s. how long between order and delivery?

I just struck lucky so am getting mine next day, in fact I didn't order 'till this afternoon and should have it by about 10:00am.

I have been in discussion with Alan for a few days regarding quality and testing etc. They test every batch in house and have a lab report every two weeks. In addition they lab test every incoming batch of oil. As he says poor incoming oil will make poor biodiesel.

cheers dieselman, i'll be on the phone in the morning.
sorry one more question before i go to work.
is there a minimum order and does the price increase if you buy less.
ok sort of two questions then.

I started using veggie oil instead of deisel few months ago its fab and only £1.62 for 3 litres from Morrisons, car emmissions smell like a chip shop though but car is actually more economical now than before and just as powerful, so hey what the hell.:bannana:

The minimum order is 200 litres and the price is the same upto 1000 litres, after that I'm not sure.

Mine arrived Ok, not put any in yet as I want to run the tank down first so should probably put it in tomorrow night.

But the tax makes this a non starter. £1.63/3 = 54p + 49.2 ppl = £1.01 ppl, or am I missing something?

Remember if you aren't paying the duty and get caught then you lose the car straight away, and after a court hearing get fined appropriate to the length of time you have been not paying duty for and could go to prison.

I know that there are potential problems with veggie-oil and the W210 E320cdi (so much so that last time I looked at this I decided not to risk it). Are there similar problems with bio-diesel or can I just use it exactly the same as I would "normal" diesel from the fuel station? If so, it seems stupid not to buy it for 79.5p per litre!

It should work fine, but ask the supplier so that if there are any issues you can go back to them.

One of my work collegues tried Bio diesel from Sunenergy in Halesowen which was 73p straight from the forcourt pump. He's only used it once but had no problems.
His car is an Audi A4 2.0 TDi.

Go to the expressbiofuels link above and their FAQ's cover most of your queries. They will also answer other queries by e-mail. If I read them right they charge about 80p per gallon all tax and duty paid.

Anyone know if BIODIESEL is exempt from the congestion charge in London and also from the higher £25 charge for so#called gas guzzlers?

I think you mean 80p per litre.

A vihecle running biodiesel isn't exempt from charges as it isn't registered as a converted or dual fuel vehicle.
How would hte cameras know whether you were running bio or regular diesel that day?

biofuel

I have run my 2001 e320 on 90/100 percent Biodiesel for over 2 years 20/30K miles. I make bio myself at a cost of 16 pence a litre. Ive had no engine problems or car problems at all!!!! About once a year the computer comes up with about 4 dire engine faults requiring me to morgage the house and take the car to the main dealer. This is fixed by changing the fuel filter £6.90............Diesel engines were orginally designed to run on veg oil, a main dealer engineer tells me a W210 will run on anything since they do all over the world!!!!

Some of the slop and lumps that went in from the chippy towards the end defies belief.

However, I run my old Renault Trafic on filtered waste veg oil at a mix of around 70% wvo to 30% diesel. I tend to do this in the summer season as I get the wvo from the local beach chiringuito's. It never misses a beat. Have never run the MB on it though only because I have heard of issues with the plastic fuel pipes.

I mix some normal derv in in cold weather,,, car lives outside all year
