60 mph, loaded car, no worries. :)

Bang...

Was everyone ok?

Ouch. Glad you are OK. Bet that gave you a fright!

ouch indeed  looks a nasty one that does.

Sheesh - that looks a bit scary!

Hopefully everyone wasn't too shaken.

Out of interest, what brand/type of tyre was that, and had it ever been repaired or anything?

Will

Thanks for the concern, everyone! :)

Everybody [including car and even the wheel!] unharmed. Obviously car wheel and tyre are going in for a checkup/investigation tomorrow.

My son [23] was driving when it happened - I reckon he did quite well to keep it on the road, and had the good sense not to hit the brakes too hard.

I wasn't with him, but I have 'heard the testimony' :D of those who were, and despite some initial parental cynicism, definitely no signs of anything until the bang, and no excess speed etc etc.

Tyre was a Vredestein Sportrac, which [like the other 3] until this incident had performed so well, I was thinking of replacing with the same. Will wait for a professional opinion now! None of them had been punctured/repaired.

We are having some building work done at home, and I wonder whether it might just have picked something up on the drive...

All's well that ends well :)

@ Will - first the tennis ball, now this  Enough already :p

Front drivers side, Brian. Pretty bad one isn't it? :o :o

The reason I asked was because I had a blowout on the front wheel of a car once, and they are pretty difficult to steer into the kerb when at speed in the outside lane. Not anywhere near as much damage as yours. Your lad did you proud to control it, helped by the MB engineering too I expect.

Pretty pattern now on the Alloys too mate. Refurb out of the question. :D :D

He certainly did well. I.m prety sure you could not invoke that happening, but just as well he was behaiving and only doing 60mph.

Is he using his car control ability to get insured on the E55? :D

That's the tyre Brian, take a closer look.

He wishes  That's his Cooper S which he finds expensive enough to insure. It only cost £70 to add him as a named driver on the 300TD, so that's his little bonus from me

I took him on the AMG day when Billy and I went down together, and they let him drive

I tell you, being driven round the track, [in the back] on a damp day, with your 20 year old son twitching the tail of a brand new CLK55 towards the barrier, with a Police Advanced Trainer shouting 'give it more, don't be soft' [to demonstrate the ESP] is not something you want to do on a regular basis.

He was very good in Karts as a kid, but at 6'3'' and 15 stone, he doesn't fit so well anymore :)
