Wondering if these "brake failures" happen to people that drive an automatic using both feet instead of one?
I witnessed an elderly staff member at work do just this in the company car park a number of years ago. (she wrote off about 5 cars reversing out of her spot)
My MIL recently bought a SMART with the MHD gearbox. Her previous weapon was a Micra automatic (proper auto box). The MB salesman brought the car to her house as she wouldn't drive their to get it.
He gave her the full demo (several times) and left.
She didn't drive the car for 2 days as she was wary of it and when she did take it out, she couldn't make it go. The reason
wait for it ....
When the salesman told her all she had to do was put her foot on the brake to start the car and then drive normally, he didn't tell her that she should take her foot off the brake when she wanted to go. The result was that the eco-mode would kick in and stop the engine.
Even better was when MB phoned up to see how she was getting on, she told them that the Salesman was very good but hadn't told her that she should release the brake to drive the car - in my view they should have come straight back round and taken the car away from her.
And what's even worse is my other half is getting more like that every day
