Hi Guyz, i'm a new member, not sure how this really works yet, :dk: so as a 69 yr old fart, i beg you to help me out , I have just bought a 1998 C200, the blower motor is not working, whether i have set the controls (on both sides) to hot or cold and air con. switched on. I have checked ALL fuses, both sides with a test lamp, even pulled them out and replaced them again. Where is the relay for the blower motor situated?
I had to remove the wiper arm assembly the other week to lubricate it shaft, when it was out, i could see the blower motor fan, so i gave it a flik with my finger, it turned freely, so i knew it was not seized.:D
The car has done 253000km, do you think it could be the brush's or relay, but first i feel i must swop the relay over, just to test and know if the problem is sorted. ;)

Hi Grenvill, There is on the underside of tow blower motor a series resistor pack held on by two torex 10 screws. This could be your problem.
If you remove thwarted blue and the red wire from the motor and connect to a multimeter you are looking for a max speed of approx 5.5 volts. if you play with the switch on the dash at various speeds you should see the drop or increase of 0.5 V at each switch stage.
If you don't see this 5.5 at full blow or at some stages the voltage doesn't change its going to be a fault with the resistor pack. Obviously if you do get the result as explained above then you motor is shot.
Both items are quite costly now from thwarted MB stealership but from my experience the Euro car parts resistors are tempermental.
one more thing.. the blower and resistor is located under the passenger side dash/ footwell, cover is held on by three screws.
Hope this helps.

Another bizarre possibility is that there's a dodgy connection at the back of the control panel. That's what happened to me, although I believe my experience to be unique.

Hi all
I have a problem with the heater/ac fan, it comes and goes, took it to my mechanic today and he said will have to have dash board out next week, is there another way to get at the fan? 2001 430e class estate

Had problems again with mine last week, turned out to be furred up connectors between the regulator and the fan, easy fix, wire brush spades and fan terminals.

But can be brushes worn in motor or fan regulator at fault.

Ask him if you have to take the dash out to change the cabin filter,I think not,as it sits in front of the fan,you can get to it by removing passenger side lower dash panel, easy job.

Hi martyz
bought a new regulator off ebay and fitted it, problem still exsists, took out motor & gave it a blow out still not right, last hope is the brushesare they easy to fit?

Not sure if you've solved your problem Grenvillecl but I had to change the bushes on my fan and it's quite easy.
I can't give a step by step guide but from memory take the fan out from the housing under the glovebox, you'll have to knock the plastic vaned fan off the motor shaft to access the brushes otherwise it's relatively straightforward. You'll need to order the brushes beforehand, I got mine off EBay for about £6.
Good luck
Nigel
