Blue smoke after top end rebuild?

KLP 92 said:
At 2000 rev idle it continues puffing out blue smoke, just through the passenger side exhaust (the right and left side exhausts are seperate)

Its not breathing heavy either.

If it's not breating heavily then that points towards valves rather than bores.

Am popping down to see GF later on this afternoon so will update this evening.

GEorge is probably the most honest mechanic i've used. He's a good family friend as well so its not really an issue of cost with him.

I have read this thread with great interest, and am impressed with all the expert knowledge being offered.

As an outsider, I appreciate your predictament with George Fraser and hopefully he is going to resolve any issues.

If he maintains it is the bottom end.... then I would strongly suggest you consider an independant source to carry out the examination. At present I have my fingers crossed that the situation will quickly be resolved.

Good luck,
John

The engine has been removed, the heads have been sent off by GF for a check by an independant specialist to recheck it.

The bottom end should have been inspected this afternoon as well so i'll know tomorrow what the prob is.

Its being done FOC so i don't have a bad word to say about George, he's an honest chap whose going out of his way to rectify the prob.

Hopefully you are on the way to getting this situation resolved. It looks like the dealership I use has competition for excellent service?

My fingers are still crossed,
John

You know GF reads these pages don't you?

I know, but the point of this thread was to get some advice regarding my problem, not to name and shame etc.

I was at GF yesterday with another car getting a few things changed. I will still continue to use him as i know he's an honest competent mechanic, which is hard to come by in London. I have been recommending him to my family and friends for years and i still will.

The problem with the SEC is that i wanted a million and one things done on the car, highlift cams, uprated diffs etc so i knew it was never going to be a straight forward job.

I don't have any doubts or ever doubted that the car would not be repaired. I was puzzled by the smoke after a top end build. I know a few other mechanics as well who have suggested that as my top end has been redone it has increased the pressure put on the bottom end, hence the reason for it smoking.

I wish all our customers were like you!

You trust the garage that you have build up a good relationship with. As well as accepting that things can go wrong sometimes and understand that the garage will make sure that you will get looked after and that any possible mistakes will get rectified properly. All this without the kneejerk reaction of 'i'm getting ripped off' or 'i'll never use that garage again'.

When things don't go according expectations the garage will really show how good they are. A good garage still makes mistakes like anyone else, but is good at reacting and solving any problems.

Cheers

Problem solved?

KLP 92 are you any further on with your "smoker". I appreciate your loyalty to GF. To be fair much of the initial advice offered, including mine, as to how to approach this problem was made without knowing of your long term relationship with GF. As far as we were concerned it was a forum member asking for advice about a tricky situation which had arisen with an independant. Had we known of your long association with GF our advice might have been slightly different. I have had no dealings with GF and unlikely to have in the future for geographical reasons so I have no axe to grind, unlike some others.
I am more interested in technical aspect of your problem.
ANY PROGRESS???

I agree. I was rather surprised when I learned that the transaction was not simply commercial and would have kept shtum had I known, although I stand by my remarks.

Btw, what's the technical diagnosis?

I guess we are all curious to know. How did it go?????

KLP, Are you ever going to tell us what the real problems were with your engine and whether its out of the garage now? The wait is killing me!
