Until yesterday I believed that the BMW i8 is a very rare car ... To my surprise I saw one in the morning just before Iver Village and few hours later another one in Northwood ....
The car looks amazing by the way so I would be interested to see what Mercedes will come up with... By the way not tempted yet to get one...

I don't know numbers, but my understanding is that the UK's i8 allocation for the year is sold out, so I guess we're only going to be seeing more

Couldn't believe it, two days in Dublin and saw two! Yep, must agree they look amazing.

Yeah, one of those moments that really make you stop and look as it goes by.
I've seen a couple now, very impressive, whether it will age well I'm not so sure, but definitely looks very different and very special at the moment.

So does anybody knows how many were delivered in UK so far ??? It cannot be that many. Even wife that never cares about cars was asking me what car was the one we saw.....

did you told her that was only a crap bmw !

Attended this weekend's Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace as press and there were a few i8s on display. Not too keen on the styling at the moment but I think they will gradually grow on me as I'm in the process of arranging a test drive/review of one...

Get over it, you sound jealous.

I think the i8 is stunning, just imagine if it were petrol powered. So, I will half agree with c36fan.

:p!

Z8 ... yes please

Does it have a range extender?

I would buy one but it would be 4th on my list:

1. Ferrari FF - for real pleasure
2. E63 Estate - for practical fun
3. i3 - for the city stuff
4. i8 - but don't know why

From memory, it has electric only capability, but it's full performance is released when IC engine and battery are utilised in unison. IC engine is small capacity highly boosted turbocharged triple (IIRC). I think, though I'm not certain that (unlike i3) it has direct mechanical connection between engine and rear wheels - with fronts being motor driven.

With the eDrive button pressed, 100% electric driving is possible in the BMW i8, with power coming via the front axle only. The hybrid mode allows the intelligent combination of two types of drive that provide optimal traction in every situation. The electric drive is located on the front axle, while a high-performance three-cylinder engine works at the rear axle. All four wheels can thus be powered simultaneously by two engines, and – depending on the driving situation – this utilises the advantages of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Outside the city, the fully-fledged four-wheel drive of the BMW i8 shows its true strength – at speeds of up to 155 mph (electronically limited).

3 pots ?? Are you having a laugh?
No true petrolhead would drive that!

Prefer the Z8 personally. Sat in the i8 at Goodwood FOS and was impressed. Saw one being charged at BMW Oxford on Friday night - it had it's own charging point!
