c200cdi auto 204 model
i have just bought a new c220cdi which has been scotchguarded what would i be best to do to keep it prestine would i put wax or polish on top or just leave it as is

I hope it really wasnt scotchguard as I thought it has been banned a number of years ago.

I thought Scotchguard/scotchgard was fabric protection. Had my carpets and leather seats treated last year. If the treatment was done by the dealer it would have been Mercedes Benz Stargard.

Scotchguard doesnt work on leather, nor do any other PFC's and in any event, it was banned in 2000.

Thats why I put Scotchguard/Scotchgard. Scotchgard is still on sale and is used on leather. Scotchgard is what was used last year on my carpets and leather seats.

sorry my mistake it was starguard it was done with so what am i best to use on top of it

As we speak now, the star guard has most likely already left your paintwork. I hope Mercedes are giving this product away for free and not scamming customers.

starguard

i thought the starguard was all singing and dancing obviously not i was going to use ultra seal on it as i had this on my last car and it was still beading after 18months one of the valeters at mb gave me the starguard foc as he said mb charge u £400 to apply it and not worth it what do u suggest to apply on top ie a wax or some other sealant.

Degrease, rinse, snow foam, rinse, wash, rinse, chemical bath, rinse, dry, clay. Then give the car a thorough ipa and apply G-techniq C1 crystal laquer. This will actually last 3 years if car is washed regulary with a ph neutral shampoo.

Hi - just of the OP's benefit, you should really stress that C1 is a "professional" type product and anyone using it should make sure they are very familiar with the process for using it. The OP could land themselves with a large bill if they apply C1 incorrectly.

C1 is applied by make up remover pad. But as stated is a professional product. Have a look for some of my posts, have completed many many G-Techniq crystal laquer protection details. If not applied properly you will have streaks that will be near to impossible to remove as it bonds to laquer very quickly. But is one of 3 rated the best.

When you say chemical bath, is that iron-x/Wolf's de-ironiser or similar?

Also, is IPA better than something like AG HD Cleanse?

Any tips gratefully received!

Chem bath usually includes an iron remover (ironx / wolfs deionizer / autobrite purple rain etc), then followed by tar remover (tardis tends to be the best).

£660.00 now for 500ml and customers wonder why detailing is expensive ;)

But is now my most popular service, awesome product.

Ahh, but give people all the facts. Most cars could be coated using 25ml of C1 so that works out to around £30 per car.

It's detailers' labour costs which make it expensive:D

Hi

Yes a chemical bath is a de-ironiser. I use it after washing, but re wash after using also before rinse off.

By standards C1 is an expensive product. Thats like saying crystal rock is cheap because it costs £795.00 a tub, but you could apply around 45 coats. If you broke down whats exactly used im sure all things are cheap. P-ZERO Tyes cost X amount but I get x amount of miles. So in the breakdown there dirt cheap too;) But life's not quite like that is it.

I also dont use AG products but im guessing its pre wax cleaner. Pre wax cleaners are nothing like ipa. Pre wax cleaners prep surfaces for wax but contain lots of silicone and fillers. Crystal glass coatings will not bond to paintwork that has polishes fillers and silicone. The paint has to be completly clean and free from all silicone. Ipa is pure alcohol. I mix it with water about 30/70 and when sprayed onto paint will remove all silicone fillers and polishes. This is what you have to do before C1 is applied. This is why you need to make sure your paint is defect free because you will not be able to mask swirls up with fillers as you have to remove all the fillers for the C1 to bond. If that makes any sense lol!
