Hi again, sorry to keep posting with questions and no help for others, but.....

My '99 C250TD is going in tomorrow for the boot, 2 doors and 2 wheel arches to be resprayed (yikes) and I have just removed the boot badges myself (to save money) and now realise they are just glued (double sided tape?) on.
Has anyone successfully re-stuck their old badges as mine are ok, or do I need to buy new ones?

If they can be re-applied then what do I use, if not, anyone tell me where I can buy them on the 'net please as I live quite a way from the dealers?

Thanks again,

Neil

eBay has some boot badge now and then fairly cheap, but then again many times they aren't original. Dealers have them, but as you said you live far. Re-sticking them youself is hard for the simple reason that you would need to cut double sided foam tape to the right shape...

Badges from Stealers come with a template when u buy them so that they are postioned correctly. Why not just go for the debaged clean look...?

turbodiesel is gonna be a bugger to stick back on.

When i was doing it , i measured out and used masking tape to get start and base line to work on etc.

you can buy double sided tape for a few quid a roll - avoid the foam types and go for the stronger (and much thinner) type used by carpet fitters.

Cutting around the badges would require a very sharp scalpel/modelling knife.

If you've got time to spare it will save you a couple of pounds but personally I'd go for new.

Personally I would go with the debadged look, because most of the time when I have seen these badges replaced its never looks perfect and will make it obvious that work has been done, which most will suspect due to an accident.

The best ones are where the badges have been put back on the wrong side  as well as being too high or low

I must be a right sad git but i always notice these

Tan, I'm ever sadder - it really annoys me how many numberplates aren't put on level! :D

Ok fellas thanks for the many replies.

Luckily I took pictures with a ruler in them before taking off the old letters to help in repositioning new ones.

I have priced up new ones and they want just under £40 for the set. A bit steep I think.

So..... I am going to go unbadged until it annoys me or I sell the car, then badge it up.

TBH I like my badges cos the car is sh*t off a stick off the mark, and many people see the 'diesel' bit and pull along side at lights etc thinking I will be chugging away on green.

:)

So on the whole, you think debadged has more 'kudos' than badged?

Cheers,

Neil

IMO, no. 99% of the time unbadged means "base model" ...

I was following a de-badged Porsche Boxster the other night. I suppose the owner wanted people to think it was a 911 cabrio?

Probably a Boxster 2.5 trying hard to be a Boxster S :o

Maybe, it certainly wasn't an "S" (wrong exhaust). Like I said ... base model! :D

Most common round here are debadged BMW 3 and 5 series repmobiles that look pretty mean (big alloys etc.) ... till you spot the puny exhaust ;)

I have a 230 CE and i de-badged it, not so people would think it was a 320 but because i think the lines look cleaner without badges on .....

I have use of a CLK 430 when i want to play ......

I'm sadder than that, I notice that some the letters on the plate itself are on skewed, have wrinkled edges, are stuck down a bit distorted or have incorrect letter spacing

Have you noticed how many numberplates de-laminate nowadays? I've had to replace the rear one on my VW already (at under 3 years old) and the rear one on my wife's 2 year old Honda is going too!
