Boot Rust on W114

Hello All,

Had sometime today so went to check on the car. I didn't check the boot of the car when I purchase it, probably a big mistake?!?

The boot closer end of the boot seems to be rusty, but it has not rust through or anything, just some surface corrosion. I then pursue to look underbody, which I did before and it seems to be extremely clean, the waxoyl is still doing a good job. Just wondering where is the water ingression coming from? I use to have a Ford Mondeo and that came from the rear lights, would that be a likely case? It seems that the rubber around the boot is good?

Thanks,
Angus

Angus, probably is leaking around the lights but it's hard to seal it. Check the channel for the wiring from the petrol tank in the middle of the boot floor as water collects in it and rusts badly.

take the units out and check the seals, if its coming in the lights its probably still damp under there, need to attempt to get it fixed, mine developed a hole under the back light on the drivers side becuase it had been ignored.

Thanks both, I am happier that it is the light, which could be replaced. If its somewhere else then that would be quite worrying. Saw some light units on Ebay Germany, quite check, if not then just the seal.

Thanks
A
