Afternoon all,

Just heard from my Dad that someone has pulled a side panel off his Brabus CL (and nicked it) - just to get the flippin tiny Brabus badge...why why why

Police comment was that 'it was probably bored youngsters looking for something to do'.

The implication being 'you buy an expensive car, these things can happen'.

I wonder what the response would be to my defence of 'You vandalise people's personal property, you get what's coming to you', were I ever to catch those who did it....

Rant over, sorry.

p.s. I want to emphasise that the Police did not condone nicking the panel - it was more of a case of weary resignation that they're powerless to stop these things happening.

Sorry to hear of the mindless vandalism and the police' pathetic response.
Seems that seems to be the response more often than not these days.
I know it is 'only' vandalism but can't they at least pretend to be doing something!.

Mac.

trouble is,, even if the bobby's catch them,, they know the court's only give the yobo's a slap on the wrist,, after all the paper-work etc,, they've had to do,, think i'd be a bit complacent too,,

bring back the birch,,

Hey man, sorry to hear about the car.

I'd just like to point out that I had my car vandalised about a year back. Some of you may remember the thread, and the following thread about the 'revenge' that I and a couple of friends took over the culprits. The thread was deleted in about an hour due to it's violent nature. But I've never had a problem since.

My point: Against all advice and common sense, I took the law into my own hands and won. If you find out who did it, whatever their age, make them pay. Make them feel sorry. Drill into their heads a message that vandalising other people's property will be something the police can damn well sure turn a blind eye to, but not all owners will.

I guard my car with force. It's the most important material possesion to me. If my rights as a functioning member of society are violated, I make sure the offender(s) are properly repaid. It's a vicious cycle for some people, but I'd hate to have word get round that people can walk all over me and get away with it.

Defend your honour, defend your Merc.

Crazy, sick b*$tar*ds

I dont think anyone would go to the lenght of removing a body panel for a laugh - they must have needed to utilise it. Front wing panel is not difificult to remove but they would have needed to release the bonnet to do so - surely the alarm must have sounded/gone off unless the car was left unlocked?

If the bonnet is tampered with when the alarm is activated then the alarm will go off.

Car was locked, bonnet was not tampered with - they just pulled off the bottom panel in front of the passenger door, which was the bit with the badge. Think they just wanted to own a bit of Brabus (albeit a ten quid badge  )

Can't believe someone would go to those lengths to repair their own CL would they?

Sorry, I mis-understood/mis-read your post - I thought that they removed the whole entire "wing" and not the lower cladding... Typical bloody yobs.... They need a good kicking...

My father did exactly this and was murdered for his trouble. I think I would have preferred him to claim on his insurance. By the way this was over 20 years ago when people didn't routinely go armed. These days the risks of this happening are probably a lot higher.

Times have changed my friend, you're right about that.

Sorry to hear that Brett. It kind of puts our anoyances in to perspective. My wife has banned me from "interferring" with jobs for exactly this reason. The days when I can go and tick the yobs off are gone. They are likely to be armed and drunk or on drugs.:(

I'm sorry to hear that...

It was a long time ago and I was very young, so I didn't know much about it to be honest. My point here though, is that you NEVER know how far the other person will go to get what they want. Those were more innocent times back then, and he was in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Nowdays, you really don't know what is motivating that person to take your property, and personally, if I was in that situation I'd let them take it. Hopefully it will never come to it, but ultimately, it is a lump of metal that can be replaced.

I think your post highlights the huge variance in lifestyles that members of this forum have. Some folks will agree 100% with your very sensible point and others will simply advocate a totally different response.

I can understand your pain when reading these types of messages and sadly I feel things will get worse. Low life's think it perfectly acceptable to lash out at anyone simply because they are 'bored' I could work myself up into another rant, but what's the point?? ;)

Take care,
John

The point is that if we all sit there as the silent minority, these scrotes will always get away with it. I couldnt attend the GTG the other week due to a shortage of funds, but now I have even less, as one of these "bored" gentlemen decided he had more ownership of the bonnet mounted star than I did. Some of you may say it is only £20, but it's my £20 that I would rather give to my son than the stealer. When I informed the police I was told that if I had caught them in the act and responded with appropriate action I would have been arrested. Justice........no way, at least in the states I could have shot them and plead self defence. That would stop the buggers. rant over.

I think the thing that is most disturbing is the complete and utter lack of faith that most contributors have voiced over the response shown by the Police?? As I type this I am trying to think of any local prosecutions of citizens that have assaulted folks they have detained??

I have read Zooman's post and there appears to be some very strange circumstances surrounding that case which are ongoing and hopefully will be resolved in a satisfactory manner.

The examples we have read on this thread can appear shocking but they clearly needed investigating. The travellers beating up the sister is a fine example. As a complete outsider I understood that our member heard what he thought was a serious assault taking place and done his best to stop it. The other version from the travellers is that our member carried out a completely unprovoked attack on two\three people. The only independant witness cannot corroborate the version that we believe to be true so three people say one thing, and one person says another? I know whose version I believe but that is totally irrelevant. The travellers thankfully disappeared so the story had a happy ending.

Is it the investigation that we find irksome, especially as we are completely innocent and feel that we are being treated as the villain instead of the innocent party? The Police should NEVER encourage violence against offenders, but they should be both supportive and more important... grateful for the assistance that has been given by folks detaining burglars etc Has this attitude completely disappeared?

Are the Police being to politically correct and not using common sense or discretion?

Have the public now got no faith whatsoever in the Police?

What has caused this breakdown?

How can our faith be restored?

Is it the fault of the Police, or the system?

Should the Police just listen to one side and arrest one person and let the other party walk away?

My sympathies.

And I agree, however much we love them, cars are at the end of the day only lumps of metal.

i have no faith in the police what-so-ever,, from various encounters with them,, which involved,, mugging,, burglary,, etc,,

the only way to get justice is,, do it yourself,,

silent majority,, not me,, somebody tries to take something i've worked hard for,, wether it be a car,, tv,, anything,, i'd do my best to give them what they deserve,, a good battering,, then as a police officer,, on more than one occasion told me,, just drag the unconcious scrote off your property or away from your vehicle,, job done,,

I would love to agree with you but did you see what happened to Bearface in this threadhttp://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=23510&page=3
Mac.

yes,, read it,,

heard similar tales before,, but i know from my past experience, that when someone's trying to take something that belong's to me,, i dont stand there and mull it over,, i stop them,, it's like a reflex action,, and the thing is where do you draw the line,, a few people have said " it's only a piece of metal ", let them take it,, what if they're in your house taking your tv,, do you stand there and say to yourself, " it's only a tv ",, let them take it,, you might as well put a sign outside your house saying "come on in and help yourself ",,

no for better or worse i'd have to have a go,,
