I voted Brabus, but debadged with the 'powered by Brabus' on the sides would look discreet too...

there's a Brabus e-class just down the road where I live. it just has Brabus on the back, and that looks just right. just the Brabus name badges will look spot on, no B63/C63 badges.

I voted to keep the car standard, for the same reason I wasn't going to badge my Saab a "Hirsch" when I got the Hirsch remap done...

I say keep the "C63 AMG" badges. Thay way you surprise even "normal" C63 PPPs :D

But superb to hear of your tuning! Superb choice, and I'm sure you'll be having tremendous fun, afterwards.
You say it's off to Brabus, so you're taking it Bottrop, I guess?

If so, pretty please, can we have a write-up, a-la your factory collection. Pretty, pretty please, with sugar on top? :p

My view - only the Brabus-built cars (branded "Brabus Supercars") should carry the Brabus badge. Otherwise you're in danger of being like the lads who list every "supplier" on the side of their motor :)

Right, I've taken in everyones opinions and also a fair few from the US AMG forum which has hundreds of C63 owners giving their advice....and I've had 2nd thoughts on this Brabus upgrade. :wallbash:

Also, a company in the UK has come highly recommended by someone I know - Car Planet Racing (CPR) in Warrington.

CPR just happen to be the UK's Kleeman distributor and pretty much only AMG specialist. Kleeman is a massive Dutch-based AMG tuner who offer 4 levels of tuning for the AMG '63 engines. As said before, one of the main reasons I wanted Brabus was for the fact they are Mercedes approved but after some research, it appears that Kleeman are available to buy directly through Mercedes dealers in the USA (very much like Brabus is over here). So, I've just called a dealer over there (pretending to live in the States!) to find out more and it appears that they are indeed approved by Mercedes in the States.

Now, I know this won't cut any mustard over here but TBH, if it's good enough to be offered through Mercedes in the States, I'm now more confident that the product is going to be just fine!

So, I know it isn't Brabus (and I don't get those iconic badges ) but it is 1/3 of the price! Therefore, I've decided to go for their K1 (most basic tune) which gives 525bhp. Their other 3 tunes involve changes to the exhaust, the manifolds and the throttle bodies and can give up to 600bhp! However, I don't have any desire for anything more than just getting the engine to the output it's designed for and I don't want to change any part of the exhaust as I like that just as it is!

I've also spoken with CPR to discuss this as well as some other thoughts on my car concerning the handling and brakes.

Firstly, my new one suffers from (a bit!) more body roll compared to my previous C63 (the older Performance Pack had stiffer suspension that's no longer available on the new PPP one).

I've considered having the suspension components from the old '08/'09 model C63 PP fitted - this would give me the same ride/handling as my previous C63 but given Mercedes charge over £1k just for the bits , and after some advice from CPR, I've decided to go the full whack and get some KW Coilovers for it.

According to the AMG forum in the States, this is by far the very best upgrade for the C63; it keeps the ride about the same as standard and totally flattens the handling (and they are also fully adjustable). They are KW V3 Coilovers and they are the exact same units that AMG fit to their Black Series cars - CLK63 Black and SL65 Black (confirmed to me by AMG themselves).

Too good to be true?? :dk: ....well I don't know as I've never experienced Coilovers but if they're good enough for the Black Series models then they're good enough for me!

Finally, a rather small upgrade but I'm also having braided brake hoses and uprated brake fluid - the brakes on the car are astonishing (6 pot front, 4 pot rear Brembo's) but there's a lot of pedal travel. This small mod should hopefully eradicate that.

So, despite not being so mad in getting the Brabus tune, most of you will probably still think that I'm just a crazed (and possibly stupid!) nutcase!

Oh, that'll be my car totally done....finished! Honestly! It'll hopefully be set up nicely for my trip to the Nurburgring (my 4th one so far) in August.

Right, I'm off to drive to Germany in a couple of hours and will be car-less for the next few weeks!

Car Planet Racing is a self proclaimed Kleemann distributor. As confirmed by Kleemann CEO, there's only one in the UK and it is SG Performance in Mayfield. The owner's name is Steen Greve, a very polite guy who is an absolute pleasure to deal with.

On a side note, one can order Kleemann parts directly from Kleemann in Denmark via their website to avoid any distributor's markup involved.

dms do a remap for £1250 that gets you 540ish bhp.

Thanks for the update, Palmball!

Good luck with your tuning adventure and have a safe drive to Germany for your extra bit of AMG leather :thumb:

Aren't Kleemann Danish though, not Dutch?

I am aware of Steen at Kleeman and he is the official UK distributor.

However, CPR are the Kleeman representative for UK North - check out any Kleeman advert and you will see that it recommends both SG Performance (SGP) AND CPR as the UK contacts - SGP for the South and CPR for the North.

It makes no odds anyway - whether I use SGP or CPR, both just send the ECU off to Kleeman in Denmark anyway as Kleeman only do the modification at their HQ. No idea why??

I've chosen to use CPR as they have come very highly recommended. Also, I'm having the suspension and brake lines done and they are lot more convenient for me to get to than SGP - like 80 miles from where I live rather than over 200 miles!

I've heard too many negative things about DMS to go with them. Another C63 owner posted on another forum that he had his done at DMS not so long ago. Whilst he is ultimately happy, his car did go into limp home mode the day after he got it remapped! And that's not the first or only negative thing I've heard about DMS but it is one that relates directly to my car!

Sorry if that offends anyone and obviously I don't have any personal experience of DMS but I'm very fussy with who I trust my car to and I'd rather use a company like Kleeman for a few quid more who have a lot more experience with (and specialise in) AMG engines.

SMS said to me:

We increase power to around 525 BHP and increase torque by +45 lb/ft. We also remove the top speed limiter and insert the throttle map profiles from the CLK Black series. This dramatically improves mid range response. The upgrade is undetectable by Mercedes service and diagnostic equipment and can usually be carried out at your location. Cost £1200+vat.

I would be intrigued to hear about the dark DMS stories...

Sorry, double post. Shyate iPhone!

Palmball, is there not a Bilstein PSS9 or 10 variant available for your car?

When I was replacing the suspension on my Cayman, the Bilstein was recommended above and beyond the KW for a number of reasons by probably the best suspension specialist in the UK, Center Gravity. Having now had them fitted, I can highly recommend them. Completely transformed the car and very very easy to set up and adjust. Takes literally 1 minute to change the set-up from road biased to track biased. I drive the Cayman to the track in fast-road mode, 2 minutes later its fully firm ready for the track. Very impressive. Build quality and guarantee are also far superior to KW, I believe.

Just something to think about.

Interesting...thanks for the info Jack. The reason I've gone for KW is that they're the same units that MB fit to Black Series cars and they have almost universal approval on the US site as THE one to have on the C63.

In all honesty I could go round in circles deciding which one but I'm sure either of them are going to be far superior to what's standard. Now, I've never had Coilovers so it's interesting to see that you rate them so highly on a car that already is one of the best handling cars around. Tell me please...assuming they're not too dissimilar to the Bilsteins, will it give me what I want... To maintain ride as much as possible, improve vertical body control (ie whee the car hits a bump or undulation that moves the body sharply) and give flatter handling?

Thanks

Andrew

The mention of the Black series suspension prompted a memory of Jeremy Clarkson's column on the CLK Black he owned and how awful the ride was. Link here

I have spoken to the owner of CRP he is a nice guy and a MB enthusiast.

I have bought allot of Kleemann stuff but NOT from here, price here is almost double what it is in America.

Also if I were to modify a C63 I would only use these guys.

RENNTECH :: NEWS

Scroll down you will see their demo.

RENNtech are pricey but IMO the best.

Brabus and B63 is what I'd do.
