Infact, as I've said before, I think my ideal car would be an AMG C43 without AMG bodykit and de-badged (or ironically badged as a C180/200/230/240 etc).
I prefer quiet understatement to the extent of having a 'sleeper car'.

I agree Steve, better a wolf in a sheeps clothing than the sheep dressed as a wolf. If I had a Brabus I would debadge it.

The only car I'd debadge would be a C180, and for that reason any car I see that is debadged I just assume is bottom of the range. Just removing a C240 or highter badge would make the car look worse in my opinion.

Thanks for all your opinions guys, the decision has been made..........

I have de-badged the sides and left the badges on the rear. :D

The inverse is also true - I know SL600 owners and BMW 540 owners who have debadged, as they do not wish to advertise the fact ! It is normally a factory delete option.

I have a C220 CDI which I had debadged (factory option) (and to be fair it does have quite a bit of torque) for the clean look - My Dad's CL600 was debadged also not just for the clean look but to also attract less attention - I prefer a sleepers cars and the element of surprise... - The CLK 500 Cab that we are most likely to get (September) will also be debadged at the factory just like all our other cars....

If a debadged car has the right alloys/wider tyres/sports suspension and standard twin dual exhaust tips - then in my opionion that goes to show that the car is sporty/aggressive and not cheap i.e. entry level - more options you get on an entry level car the more expensive they are in comparison to higer end models - i.e. wheel upgrades etc. (that is from the factory...) - not sure about after market though...

Bit late on this one....

I debadged my C180 but not my C250, so what does that say?

I also cannot see the point in adding AMG or BRABUS badges, getting too much like Corsa Dave for my liking.............but each to their own.

Oh and the TURBODIESEL badge is fun to clean like KOMPRESSOR too!

Amongst the Mercs I have noticed a few being falsely badged - few months back I saw a diesle S Class (pre face lift) whilst I was walking one lunch time (therefore it had to be a S320 CDI) - and it was badged as a S500!!! - (who does he thing he was fooling... me and my cousin had a right laugh at his expense) Therefore, u cannot rely on the badges these days.... had it been a petrol car then may be he could have perhaps got away with it with those who are not familiar with the sound of a true V8 engine... but I am...

Just kidding.

Debadging is not easy if the badge has been on a while mine took ages, like a whole morning to get it properly clean. Its also very easy to scratch the paint so be careful![/QUOTE##

I absolutely agree which is why I had opted for the factory delete option and was reluctant to have it done afterwards….

On my next car I’ m also going to have the side badges deleted from the factory too…

Its too late to remove the side badges from my current car - I was one week too late when I found out about this for the side badges (car had gone into production…)

Well the side badges came off no problem but I think the rears would be harder, just as well they are staying put. :D

Two words for you Mark . . . . .

Ok..here's a question.. how many mods from any particular manufacturer need to be done for it to become acceptable to display their badge.

This is just a hypothetical question and I dont have a view either way on it.

Two of our MB's are badged and one isn't.

One other: is it ok to do different mods from different companies i.e Brabus wheels and AMG bodykit. I tend to like to keep like brands together but I love brabus wheels but not so keen on their bodykits

Well i thought i'd debagde my 1982 500sl. I have debadges my C280, S500, and E430 before and its a simple enough job. But when i finally yanked the 500sl badge off i realised there were small holes that the badge inserted into on the boot lid! It was either sticking the badge on or getting the holes filled!
So i thought i'll stick the old one back on but realised i had bent it and kinked it when i pulled it off!! Merc wanted 4 weeks to order replacement part but i saw a 560SL badge on ebay go for £3 so......... Anyway its now got a 560sl badge!
I like the clean debadged look to be honest. I prefer people don't know what i'm driving. I don't want too much attraction and i've got nothing to prove to anyone! Besides when i put my foot down they know what i'm driving!
And putting an AMG badge or a Brabus badge on a car with 15 inch rims or something that isn't original just looks tacky in my eyes. You can tell from a mile off its not the genuine article and devalues the car!
I prefer my car subtle, no outrageous bodykits or spoliers! Just a set of nice rims and a clean look do it for me! And the car's got to be sitting on the groung (at least a 35mm drop!)

Try warming the badge up with a hair dryer prior to removing it, you'll find it's much easier once the adhesive is softened.

I personally also think a "de-badged" car looks like the owner is trying to hide the fact he/she has a basic car and is ashamed of it. Although why anyone would be ashamed of driving a basic Merc' is beyond me.

That’s part of the element of surprise and the fun that’s in it as well (in addition to the cosmetic reasons….). I can see both sides of the argument. People that see debadged cars make the assumption that it is entry level/basic model – from this assumption other drivers then tend to race the debadged cars from a stand still and it is great fun when they get burnt… and the debadged car (which the other drive does not have a clue of the engine size) accelerates away/wins – Its not good to get into races and I don’t go mad as I think about the safety of pedestrians and other road users – in addition to myself and my car… - If no other plp are at risk and its safe and I am provoked I may sometimes race the other car and when I have done so its only been for a short distance as I have got clear of the other car in time…).

A classic example was with a BMW 3 Series when I was driving my W203 – it was late night and nothing else on the road… the BMW was tailgating and flashing its headlights just for the hell of it and being very aggressive… I never have a problem with cars safely overtaking but do not like to be bullied/harrased for no reason by anyone… when the BMW went on the opposite side of the road to overtake I put my foot down and it was not able to overtake me – but the idiot would not take no for an answer (and I was at least 1 car length in front of it and was not evening flooring my car to the limit) – then suddenly a car appears head on in the opposite direction which the BMW was blocking the path for and the BMW did not make any attempt to slow down or pull in safely. Being concerned for the other car’s safety I slammed my brakes on to allow the BMW to overtake and avoid any tragedy… After the BMW had over taken and there was nothing in in the other lane coming head on I overtook the BMW cleanly and he was not very happy and knew he could not beat me… this time flooring the car. When we stoped at the lights he just went through red to avoid the "humilliation" I guess...
