Any ideas what that's likely to mean? As far as I can see its not covered in the manual.

in that case I have not got the foggiest, It's not in red, so presumably not desperate....

Its the worn brake pad warning. Sometimes people only check the fronts but more recent cars have warning contacts on the rear pads as well. Other possibility is some warning light wiring damage malfunction such as a short to earth. The insulation of the small renewable connectors from brake pads to the brake warning wiring gets brittle with heat and can short to the caliper. This may have happened during the last brake check unless they were renewed.

It means the SBC system is knackered.

It has a 10year warranty with MB.

that's what I was afraid of! Its only done 31k!

I can still engage SBC Hold though.

Is it ok to drive the car until I can get it looked at?

Otherwise it may be time for your "free" SBC pump swap (this message in "white" can mean the pump has reached its actuation threshold but is still working), low fluid level or maybe the brake light switch....

Wouldn't have thought the pump would have reached it's actuation threshhold in only 31000 mls?

my thoughts exactly, I'll be asking Mercedes the same thing.

as quickly as the warning showed it has now dissapeared, I've just driven the car home and back to the office, no sign of the message at all.

a dodgy battery would make more sense given the low mileage but age of the car and I'm expecting to have to replace it at somepoint in the near future.

Might be low mileage, but as always I guess it depends on the type of use the car gets? IIRC, don't these pumps have a finite number of actuations - hence if it was used on mainly motorway journeys, the miles could be much higher but the brakes could have been used no more than a town car.

its used as a town car, stop/start all the time and occasionally a long journey to North Wales and back, but I've only personally covered 12,000 miles in it.
