Hello - the light came on today at 17k miles indicating the brake pads required replacing. The local stealership servicing dept is closed.

The car is under warranty and 3 questions please:

1 - how much will mb charge for the 53 plate car for the front pads C180?

2 - if i was to go to another fitter, non MB fitter, would this affect the warranty on the car?

2 - how much approx would a non mb dealer charge?

Thank you

http://www.eurocarparts.com have a look here £30-£35 for a set

+30 minutes of your time :)

Or you can let MB do it for something crazy like £150 +VAT

Your warranty sould only be effected if you miss out on service schedules or you balls up the brake pad fitment and damage something

Thank you guys!

anyone fancy doing a HOW-TO for w203 brake pad replacement??
:o

How to front brake pad replacement

1. Remove wheel
2. Unplug brake wear sensors
3. Unscrew the two self locking bolts from the rear of the floating caliper
4. Swivel the caliper upwards and remove the retaining plates and brake pads
5. If necessary draw out some brake fluid from the master cylinder before pushing the caliper pistons in prior to fitting the new pads.
6. Refit pads and retainers
7. Mercedes recommend replacing the the self locking bolts upon reassembly
part no BA42.10-P-1006-03A and tightening them to 25Nm when bolting the caliper back in place
8. Refit the wear sensor connectors
9. Before starting the engine apply the brakes firmly several times to settle the pads back onto the disks
10. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder
11. Start the engine and check for a firm brake pedal
12. Refit wheel and test
13. Don't forget to 'bed' the new pads in for best use

Thanks No1

My car has covered 17-5 mls - will the discs need replacing - auto car.

17000 and needing discs and pads someone must be very heavy on the breaks

Hi

Update: The light did not appear all day Thursday, so we phoned MB - they saidit should remian on until triped and come on every time we touch the brakes. This does not happen and made sense to us as the metal in the pads touching the dic should light up the warning. The mb guy said that it was known that some cars could have the sensor cable trapeed.

Friday we drove the car several times and again several times toady and no light - will have checked out under warrant

:(

Would the process be the same for an ML - are the any differences I should consider? Got to do mine - light is now on!!
