Breakdown cover

They help you by recovering you to the dealership. If you have Mobilo then that would cover you for breakdown recovery too.

Dell must be paying you for using your car so the cost of a breakdown service will be in that payment. I'd be amazed if Dell didn't have some kind of corporate deal with one of the breakdown services.

If you're self employed, can Dell tell you what to do? ;)

They want to see the roadtax, insurance for business use and break down cover for just £20 per closed call. If the call is not closed, no payment. Mincy Dell to work with foul-mouthed Indians relayed from India of course.:(

I am currently covered by Mobilo, (new car). However, I would recommend Insurance Choice, link below. I used them for a number of years when I had my BMW. It paid off when I had power steering pump fail in the south of France, they were absolutely brilliant.

Breakdown Cover and Breakdown Insurance - UK Rescue and Recovery, car breakdown, motorcycle breakdown, van breakdown, taxi breakdown, courier breakdown, minibus breakdown, motorhome breakdown, cover, insurance, quote, UK

That's another one who, in the UK, will only recover you to a nearby garage.

I have a recovery service thrown in with my bank account, I also have one thrown in with my insurance. I suspect they arent full relay services but frankly I'm only concerned about getting off the motorway and to a garage.

I can figure things out from there myself be it taxi hire car, train or whatever.

I havnt required the use of a recovery vehicle in 20 years so I think it is a false economy to hand over £100 a year for this service. I'm two grand up at the moment so thats my insurance. :)

Do you use main dealer for servicing? If so you may be entitled to free Mobilio cover. If not check with your bank. My bank give me free RAC cover on cars under 10 years of age.

You don't usually get anything other than basic roadside cover for the first 24 to 72 hours of membership.

So no relay. And you pay full whack.

And my experience over the years is that this is the most useful feature of these organisations as it means you get your car recovered to a location of your choice.

My friend had his car recovered within 90 minutes of signing up, and yes he paid full whack, something like £170 for what you can get for £95 on the web site, so not a massive penalty, an additional £75. If you break down less frequently than every second year, your quids in.

Works for some, but I guess most like to know they are covered from the start.

Maybe in the UK, but when I broke down in France, my car was taken to the nearest BMW dealership, which happened to be 40 miles from my accommodation and they provided a hire car for the week it was off the road. Brilliant service in my opinion, hope Mobilo are as good should I ever have to use them.

Recovery isn't the same as relay. With recovery at the wrong end of the country if they can't get you going they take you to the nearest garage of their choice. That sorts part of the problem but then leaves other complications.

With relay you get recovered to *your* designated destination.

Relay doesn't kick in until you've been a member for 24 hours.

It's all down to balancing cost vs risk vs inconvenience vs perceived value.

Personally I wouldn't play this game. I'd prefer to know that if something happens in a remote part of the country that the car and passengers will get taken somewhere convenient to me so that I can get it sorted close to home.

Erm, it isn't 'free' it is only available to those that pay for a banking package which bundles together a few services.

Have got breakdown cover with the AA (not the drink sort) and when the spring perch on the E55 snapped they said they wouldn't cover it as it was because corrosion had destroyed the component so not covered.

I didn't realise this was the case, oh well guess I should have read the small print on what is actually covered and what isn't.

I bank with Barclays and have Barclaycard for over 30 years, Santander and A&L, none offer me free car breakdown service.:dk:

Sorry should have said Barclays Premier. Look at the website - if you qualify you also get free world wide travel insurance plus some other goodies. Nisfan is correct - sorry should have said there is a fee - but way less than the cost of buying the cover. In fact far less than just the travel insurance would have cost me so the breakdown is an extra so I viewed as free - sorry if I mislead you.
