Seems like the future of telephony is arriving sooner than anticipated... with BT trialing a service which allows you to use a mobile in the house, as a house phone (lower charges) and then the same phone as a mobile when outdoors. If successful, we could see it offered nationally from September.

Full details here

Sounds like a very similar concept to the old Rabbit phones that never took off because they were outgoing calls only.

This idea should catch on ... shame its going to be BT and no doubt O2 however. :(

No BT sold o2 and there is no love lost between them :) I believe the new BT mobile network that they re-launched this year is based on vodafones network...

Yep you're right... and i'm surprised too.. Vodafone and BT.. that could mean pretty good reception.. so this could actually work.

In the home you would rather use a cordless fixed line phone at no extra cost.
What advantage is there of using your mobile in the home apart from same rate as your fixed line. Then again you would pay 9.99-15.00 for the priveledge every month.....you may as well get a contract phone and use the free mins in your home as a fixed line.

Ok so you can phone out from your mobile at home for fixed line rates but pay a monthly fee for it. I can't see the advantage unless you really prefer to use your mobile wherever you are even at home.

The major benifit is you are only on the one number so if someone wants to talk to you there you are and you only have one answering service with it. For me that would be great as it would mean I could run my office from anywhere and clients would ring my "office" and it would be there ...

More thought needs to go into the other phone users though or would BT give blocks of 5 numbers to each house?
