Oh well, I've always fancied a visit to Hull!

The guys at work tell me its a quaint little fishing village....they said that if I don't buy the car I could always buy a house up there.....can't wait.

Thank you

I went to see the car on Friday and minus a couple of slight imperfections (and an extremely dirty steering wheel) I couldn’t really fault it.

It looked lovely and drove even better so I made an offer which was refused and so I had to walk away and get the train back to London. Having found out that I had to pay £80 to get out of Hull on the next train or wait 1 ½ hours for a £39 ticket I decided to wait around and in that time the guy rang me back and excepted my offer.

4 ½ hours later (due to seriously high winds  on the M18 and a hale storm on the M1) and I was back in London with 28mpg on the trip computer and ¼ tank left.

Tank you to everyone who offered me good sound advice on this thread and others. May I now enjoy the MB Club forum as a fully signed up member of the Mercedes brigade. :bannana:

Well done Chriswt, looking forward to seeing some pics.

Well done and congratulations although I am curious about the:

(and an extremely dirty steering wheel)

You have bought the car, but what sort of dirt was this and how come it was there. (I'm a nosey person)

After using acid* the steering wheel now looks clean but the stickiness remains.

*the concentrated stuff you spray onto your car when carrying out a touchless clean. Its known by 3 letters but I can't bl**dy remember the name for the life of me.

Well I'm glad my old car dealer friend's advice (posting 59) turned out to be sound again. Walking away is really the only way to find out if you have got their price right down and the only way to signal that you really mean what you say. Lucky he got you before you got the train. Best of luck. Never heard of your 'touchless clean'. Sounds interesting if you remember more details.

Yeah, I had you're advice in mind when I turned my back on the car.

A touchless clean is something introduced to me by a mobile valeter that I used to clean my old Saab.

He used a wax system that was suppose to last 6 months and said that the best way to keep the car clean for the next 6 months was to spray on (with a weed killer sprayer) a very strong cleaning solution to the car which is know in the trade by 3 letters of which I can't remember (don't let it dry on the car or use in direct sunlight). Then spray off the solution with a jet wash. Then just use a leather to wipe off the residue water and re-apply some wax if required.

Basically the touchless wash avoids the use of a sponge which moves the dirt around the car and scratches the paintwork and expensive long lasting wax.

Wear latex or leather gloves:D
