Mercedes CLK 270 Avantgarde 2005
Hi

I am looking at a used Mercedes C220 coupe from 2005 with 230 000 Km (143 000 Miles) on it.

The seller claims that the car is in great shape, etc. But what would you say, are these kilometers/miles a lot? Do I need to stay away?

Thank you in advance!

All depends on service history IMO, if its fully stamped with invoices etc then so long as the bodywork is ok then why not, newer cars are bullet proof now. My missus 2008 C220 merc has just hit 100k and it still looks and drives like new and my SL55 is on 104k and looks more like 50k! If it was an ex lease car it probably means most of its miles was done early and always maintained at a main dealer....

To swing it the other way there is always that thing in the back of your mind.. .what if.... what's gonna break.... etc...!! But if the saving is substantial then go for it!

As above really.

Long motorway miles are preferable to short stop start journeys as there is much less wear on the engine and other components.

When I first started buying cars 50,000 miles was high for the likes of your average car, these days 100,000+ is nothing.

Well this is a 2005 car, does it count in the newer cars? :)

So coming up to 11 years old? That is 13k miles a year, pretty much the average.

I would budget for suspension, if it has been done recently it will need it doing. But then would that be any different with an 11 year old car with 80k miles on it?
Bushes get old, they need doing regardless of mileage.

I have been in 150k mile cars that feel new, I have been in 80k mile cars that feel very neglected, depends on the previous owner.

I started buying cars in the 70's, so most of the cars in my budget were from the 60's, so yeah 2005 is a spring chicken :D

Just wish I'd stashed away a few SL pagoda's, you could pick them up for £5-6000 in those days.
