CLK63 not the £200k one this is a still rare cabrio with the 6.3 the first car to get it.

2006 with 100k miles - I have never bought anything so leggy in my life but as 4 seat cabrios go what options do I have (had a Mustang and a E500 and an SL with tiny seats)

Spotted in cars and classic and was ignored due to the miles but its tanzanite (My sl55 was tanzanite) my fave colour and it has every option (weirdly the cabrio has 2 pipes the coupe 4)

I have asked loads of questions and seen lots of history and recent receipts and I am satisfied its an honest car for a fair price and as my use will be weekends and dry ones at that the miles will level out.

So I have asked for a MB dealer health report to be done and paid the chap £150 deposit to get it done (its free), I have asked my local garage to HPi the car as they know what they are doing more than I do and thats where we are at the moment.

I know it has a broken spring and a touch of arch rust but I would be putting it in for "the works" anyway inc new push buttons, gear knob and aesthetic parts that give a cars age and use away.

Anyone had any experience of this rare beast ?

Not on such exotic machinery...

But generally with miles - gearbox to watch out for. Usually need at least an oil change. Broken Spring and a touch of rust would concern me...

Personally I would not bother with new push buttons - most will barely be touched - perhaps with the exception of the steering wheel buttons.

Gearbox - I have a local top top specialist and have mentally allocated £1k
Broken spring - happened to my Aston and my indie said on 10 years he would be swapping them anyway.
Rust - Not chuffed about this but its on the arch and I assume with ££ it can be cured.
Aesthetics - on my SL the alcantara keyless go know wore down and the lovely feeling gone - at least I want that back plus recovered wheel etc etc
In my care its mileage will be 3k a year max

Despite being pretty rare I would say both of those cars are overpriced (the £16k one and the other one for £20k+)

Don't be tempted to rush just because there's not many of them. A 100k miler 11 year old petrol CLK isn't on many people's radar.

Although I understand the appeal of the 6.2 engine I would probably say a facelift CLK55 cabriolet would be a better buy and more reliable for circa £10k. Again another relatively rare car to find but the facelift 209 with the bulletproof M113 is a good choice.

I think the early '63s have a few issues to look out for?

Appreciate that input will make sure I am careful plus after 100k surely the engines solid ?

I think it's fair to say that although not an unreliable engine by any means there's a few issues to be aware of, cylinder head bolts come to mind but probably best to have a little search up/research on these :)

I'm sure someone's posted up the range of engine numbers that are affected before - worth looking out for :thumb:

Old Merc? - there was me thinking you had bought an 80s model :)

I don't even think of 70s or 80s cars as old ; for me 60s are on the threshold and really has to be 50s or earlier to be 'old' .

Indeed. My favourite website howmanyleft.co.uk lists 99 of the CLK63 still on our roads so it's one of the rarer applications of the 6.2 engine, but there are others out there and for sure more will come up for sale over time.

20 Cabrios - 17 ish left

Maybe the pictures don't do it justice but it looks a bit ropey?

Is it a private sale?

I think any 100k car looks a bit meh he uses it as a daily - but its had a lot of work done and he hasnt skimped I called the indy who went through a lot of the work.

The armchair experts are out in full force here haha
Looks a nice tidy example to me and a lot cheaper than any other clk 63
Nice rare colour
Very comprehensive service history
New tyres
Refurbished alloys
A lot of recent expenditure
The legendary m156 v8
What's not to like ?

Like I said, probably the photos don't do it justice because it looks a dull day and certain colours need a bit more sunshine to really "pop".

2 doors, 4 seats, and 8 cylinders = What's not to like - Enjoy it
