Can you retro fit heated seats into a 2004 C class, it has leather interior but no heated seat, winter is on it's way and I think the buttons should be easy to get hold of and I know the seat base comes off, anyone know for sure or has done it? ta:crazy:

2004 - is it pre or post facelift?

On the C class the heaters are sown into the leather covers. It would be easier to get after-market heaters and fit them between the foam and the existing covers.

On facelift cars the switch bank is one unit so you will have to change the complete module for one with seat heater buttons

Do a search on here for heated seats loads of info a couple of fellas have had a really proffesional job done on their c class seats.

Agree with the comment on going for aftermarket seat heating pads.

As for the switches, the switch bank (upper control panel) is a complete module on all versions of the W203 including the pre-facelfit.

You can't just buy the buttons you need, the whole switch row needs to be replaced.

the whole switch (full option) costs £100. Funnily enought some of the non full options were more expensive (around £120). They sometime come up on ebay but very few and far between.
You can change over the blank plates so that the switch panel doesn't show rear blind etc when in fact its not fitted.
If you look throught my posts you will find my write up with part numbers used but if your dash color is diferent then the part number will also change.

So I've read through loads of old threads on retro fitting seat heaters. This is what I have gathered for W203's, please correct me if I'm wrong:

  • Factory fit elements are stiched into leather so no heater element availble from MB.
  • Waeco heater elements will do the job (buy from ebay).
  • Seat base covers and backrest covers need to be removed to install pads. This is not a technical job but is time consuming.
  • You can either use the supplied switches with the Waeco units or go down the MB route.
  • MB route requires new switchbank on dash with heater option. This switchbank contains the temp and timing modules along with the relay. This route also requires an additional loom available from MB.
Other than that this seems a good DIY mod. I'm seriously considering this for my coupe. The only thing I am a little dubious about is removing the leather from the seats and not getting a perfect fit when refitting.

I just removed all the covers and refitted new ones front and rear, it is a tedious task indeed but its not too bad. The base will take hardly any time to do, whereas the seat back will be slightly more difficult. The covers are held in place by clips and rods so it will go back fine just as before.....My problem is that my old covers have the heated seat pads stitched into them whereas my new covers do not....I tried lots of places including that Waeco place and all said they 'might' work with factory switches and wiring etc but not sure......So i called DK Schweiser (who supplied the new covers) and they said that they have this a lot, they have now supplied me with four new carbon fibre seat pads which are the best money can buy, the merc ones are not even carbon fibre in the c class, and these plug straight into the factory wiring and should work perfectly!! So hopefully all will go according to plan...

How much are the CF pads from DK Schweiser? If they are reasonably priced I would rather buy from them on your recommendation. Don't trust US/China ebay sellers to supply top quality heaters. Don’t want to be doing this job more than once so best to fit quality products from the start.

I modified the wiring of the waeco heated pads and used the wiring loom from merc with the full option switch panel (yes it has the timer etc already in it ) - just buy the proper loom and plug the connector in and the other end of the loom onto the waeco pads and Roberts your mothers brother).
It has a connector to clip into the font fuse box so theres not splicing into wires for power etc.
I too was worried about re-fitting the leather but once its off just take your time and it goes on no problem, mines was pretty much molded into the shape of the seat so fitting it was no problem.

God you guys are impressive, lovin all this knowledge, okay this is where I'm at, just spoken to the Ebay seller of the Waeco heated seat pads, he sells loads of these things so thats all good, £59.99 job done, now I need to order the switch panel from MB for my wifes 04 w203 facelift, okay wiith that too, then what? do I need a bit of MB loom? if so what part number? how do I get the waeco wires into the MB loom? please put it in plain english as I'm a little bit slow on the techy bit, I like pictures, sooooo much easier!!! ta

Hi! I have just boght C30 CDI AMG and there is only ONE minus in this car. There is no Seat heaters

So I'm also interested retrofit here in COLD Finland!

So witch waeco set do you use? There are many. Witch is best solution to W203 leather seats. I have facelift so need also switch panel.. Is weaco heaters just plug and play to wires under seat? Is there wires at all for heaters? Should you put them there? Any pics anyone?

C30 CDI AMG.. Nice!! :thumb:

Quite a rare beast. I'm surprised an AMG doesn't have heated seats, you certain? Are they leather?

If you wish I could generate a datacard for your car, listing all factory options fitted from new?

I would need the VIN and an email address. But as you wont be able to PM me you would need to post here until I copy them then you could edit them out?

Whitenemesis, check out ebay.co.uk item number 370268385846, the sellers number is listed and he is very helpful, just looking for the switch bank second hand now but I think I will end up with a new part for this!
hope that helps, (1st timee I have been able to put something back in!!:bannana:

Sorry people i was away in Denmark...Tempted into buying Kleeman stuff while there!! DK Schweiser are in Colchester, call this number and explain you want heated seat pads in Carbon Fibre that will work with MB wiring and switches etc. The guy has done thousands of mercs and knows his stuff. The problem he said with ones like the weaco ones is they are not as hot as factory ones whereas the carbon ones heat up quicker and reach similar heats of factory ones. Also the carbon ones look easier to manipulate to fit the seat covers with the clips that need to go through onto the seat foam etc. Mine just arrives, they look good to me and have the two wires on each which is same as the factory ones i removed last week. So all looks good. I paid them £92 including VAT and delivery for 4 pads, two per seat....01206 211682 is DK UK number...:D
