What mpg does everyone get on their c220's??

On my 2008 auto model in C mode, I get about 300 miles to a full tank around town stop start sensible driving

Average mpg around town in 24/25mpg

Best achieved on motorway at 70mph was 47mpg Birmingham to Sheffield.

I think my mpg is poor around town, how about you?

My C320 CDi has achieved 44 m/g over 61,400 miles.
I usually achieve between 45 and 48 on motorway trips which is when I mainly use the Merc. Town driving achieves ~ 40 m/g.
Your consumption seems to be very poor. I would expect a petrol version to achieve your figures.

Yours is a 2008 model, so it's pre-blue efficency model like mine.

Mine is doing 35-39mpg around town and 50mpg on the motorway (70mph). You must be doing lots of stop/start driving?

Only 300 miles to a full tank!! I'm routinely over 500, and most of our driving is short distance 5-10 mile stuff with occasional 120 mile trips.

That's pretty good. What do you get on average to a full tank around town, or is your driving mixed? I think I could achieve near the 50 mpg on long runs but nowhere near yours on short trips. Always below 30mpg!

Mines the same, mine is a 2010 model too !

Never more then 25/26 mpg around town.

Motorway 42-44 doing 70/80.

You must have a heavy right foot. I get 28-34 around town depending on traffic in my e320 CDI. Surely mine should be a lot worse on fuel

That's pretty good for a 320cdi
What sort of miles do you get on a full tank around town?

Is yours a blu eff model?

I put £60 in my S320 cdi 2001 and it gives me 420 miles using single lane country roads with quite a few stop starts along the way.

Mine is mixed driving. Also how many miles has your car done?

Mines done 59k now (bought at 24k), I now find my car is giving me better mpg- I guess the engine has probably loosened up now? Also, I drive mine in S mode.

Things like running the A/C and incorrect tyre pressures will also affect mpg.

Mine has done 80k and had recent service.

I will double check pressure but they seem ok. I've only had it a few months. Does the on board computer tell you if pressure is low?

I always drive with a/c light off.

I always stay in C mode. Have you noticed any difference in mpg driving in S?

The difficulty with these comparisons is how you define town driving. It can mean so many different things. How busy are the roads etc. Around inner ring roads? Delivering goods and picking up etc, or all through busy town centres in the rush hour.

That's a good point

I have noticed if im at a red light or generally idling the mpg on screen goes down gradually. Is this normal even at standstill? May explain why I have a low average.

Also how long should I wait to warm up the car after turning the key? I've heard cold starts do impact mpg although I do give it a little while before take off

Running a cold engine before driving off is just wasting fuel to go nowhere, just drive normally once the engine starts, if stationary for any length of time turn the engine off.

That's interesting, I have always thought its advisable in diesel cars to let the engine run to circulate oil particularly when intending to drive at high speed/revs. May be a myth, I am no engineer to be sure!

I never give mine the full right foot untill its up to temp, but it does warm up quite quickly. Round town i normally get around 30-32, steady motorway speed 65-75 maybe abit more on a 38mile run (from cold) the display shows 42 now but when its summer it will rise to around 45-47mpg

If I'm honest, I've never really taken much notice about how many miles I get out of a full tank. I don't use the car often enough to worry about it. I was just a little shocked that people get such poor mpg out of their cars. I am more than happy with that I get considering the size of the engine

When I filled the car last I remember seeing the computer saying I had nearly 900 miles in the tank and probably did around 750 before considering putting fuel in. Admittedly most of that was motorway mileage and I do have an 80ltr tank

Myth....the thing to avoid is booting it from cold.
