C220 cdi w204 - What mpg do you get on yours?

That's interesting, I have always thought its advisable in diesel cars to let the engine run to circulate oil particularly when intending to drive at high speed/revs. May be a myth, I am no engineer to be sure!

High revs/diesel, surely a contradiction :D My B Class, probably as with most diesels at 1600rpm is close to the national speed limit in top. Diesels are not high revving engines normally, although there must be exceptions, can't think of one off hand.

I think it mbstatz meant high revving comparatively for diesel cars.Diesels can rev to 4500 ish which is more than some people ever rev their petrol cars

i get at least 30-35 around town and 50 + on motorway. have noticed with cold weather that consumption has increased though.
I always drive off straight after starting. Sure I read some where that auto box holds revs up when cold to warm engine up quicker?

That's quite good. What year and mileage is yours? Have you ever had the egr valve or maf sensor cleaned? I'm considering getting mine done with hope of achieving figures you stated. I am getting sub 30mpg around town

I've a 2012 C250cdi, and get similar figures. Overall, 42mpg. The previous car, a W204 C320 did about 33.5.

There is someone here with a C250cdi manual that averages 65mpg over a big motorway mileage.

That might be me - I get good economy from my 2-yr old manual c-class, averaging 62 over long term and around 800miles between refueling stops. About a third of my driving is in town which brings the average down but 65-70 mpg on m'way runs is normal at legal speeds.

I am jealous!! Need to get my car checked. Getting it hooked up to diagnostic to see if what is up causing low mpg..

You may want to check that your thermostat is working properly and lets the temp rise to around the 90deg mark as anything less seems to hit the economy pretty hard. Also, I had my injectors replaced under warranty around a year ago and they also reflashed the ECU and changed the wiring loom which resulted in a slight (5%+) improvement.

I've only had the car 3 months. Is my model affected by the injector recall? Registered date of car is 04-01-2008. Not sure what recalls were due or have been done on the car.

I am hooking up to diagnostic in a few days so hopefully it'll throw me some errors which is cause of low mpg.

Have u had ur injectors replaced via recall? This may help if not already done.

What do u get on a full tank?

Mbstarz, before you panic too much I would say that for a car on a relatively short and very slow journey (not sufficient time to warm up) your mpg is quite normal. Yes, if you have a fully warmed up engine and travel steadily and slowly (ie 70 mph!) You would get great mpg, as would anyone in just about any diesel car. I have a c270 auto and average 37 ish which although I am unhappy with, it is not unreasonable considering the journey I do. Also bear in mind that many people blithely quote mpg figures straight off the dash readout, which in most cars is complete fantasy. Mine usually says about 45 mpg or sometimes over 50 on a long gentle motorway run, but in reality I have never broken 40.... dashboard lies give people a lovely reassuring feeling in the wallet... strange psychology!!!

57 plate here w204. Around town 35mpg on a longer journey such as manchester to East Midlands can comfortably achieve 55mpg. Last run got 56mpg and did a brim check and fuel used matched what fuel computer said.
Bought at 15k miles and now on 80k and mpg slightly better.
Off to London tomorrow with full tank and will easily cover the 420 miles in one tank.

Yours is pre blue efficiency (iam guessing) so injector recall not applicable. If it's blue eff it will have the badge on the wing (unless taken off)

Have you tried a few Italian tune ups ?

Also is your exhaust clean or sooty as I think the 08 does not have a DPF same as mine.

Certainly getting better mpg than me!!

I have used additive and given it a blast down the dual carriage way once a week for last 3 weeks..

I think the colder weather is not helping with mpg also..

Mine is a 57plate registered jan 08. Not sure if it has a DPF? Note: there is black sooty stuff in tail pipe but thought that's normal..

Had a recent service.. I'm suspecting it could be something else.. 25mpg can't be right. 300 mile on a full tank surely is very low compared to many other owners cars..

Unless someone comes back to you to say they also do stop start driving and achieve 30+ mpg, you can be rest assured that your consumption is normal. My dashboard says high 30s around town, which is prob 20 ish mpg in reality. Some peoples idea of town driving is slowing down to 30 mph, but i get the impression that yours is serious traffic congestion? BW

I believe there were some serious injector problems with the earlier w204 models so yours may have been affected. Try here for official recall details although I'm not sure it captures ones that manufacturers don't report but get their dealers to fix during servicing: VOSA - Vehicle Recalls

Hi thanks for your reply

Just called mercedes dealers who state my model was not affected by the injector recall. No other outstanding recalls also.

Thanks for the heads up! You may be right.. Everyone has different drive styles and driving conditions etc

Being my first c class diesel, I have no previous comparative so forum members are very helpful. Thanks all

Sorry havent been on here for a while. Mine is a 2009 (not blue efficiency). Its done 65k. not sure about egr or maf as i bought it second hand about 2 years ago.

2008 MERCEDES CLK220 CDI AVANTGARDE 47k

I get 34mpg round town driving normally after a ecu remap. before I was hardly getting 29mpg and to get that had to drive really carefully slower than a pensioner
