W204 C220 Sport Auto
Hi all. I'm about to buy a w204 C220 sport auto. I think I'm going to go for a slightly higher milage car with parktronic, as opposed to a lower milage without. It's likely to be either an 07 or 57. Milage at the moment is looking as though it'll be in the region of 40000. I've never bought a car with this kind of milage before, and it'll also be my first diesel.

Am I likely to have any problems with it? Are diesel engines really ultra reliable, and is it true that they go on forever?

Cheers all.

At 40k it'll be nearly run in. I'm just changing my C220CDi with 178k miles for a CLK 270 with 69K!

Blue. Wow. That's my question answered! Cheers. I'll let you know what I get.

I have a 220 cdi very efficent and no problems so far the only problem Idid have was the engine coolant pre heater burnt out and the battary shorted to ground the part was 475 pounds from MB 70 second hand of the internet and very difficult to change Andy

I've only ever bought 1 car with less that 40K on the clock (32K and 8 years old - still have it at 102K and 15 years old).

Well, you're all doing a great job of allaying my initial apprehension. Hopefully I won't get stung with any big repair bills. My golf needed a new clutch at 41000 and that cost about £1000!!!

I bought my C220 with 148k on the clock, drives like 70k :-)

Just change oil and filter regularly.

I've had diesels in the past ( citroen) and put 300,000 miles on them, and sold them on as running, so I would expect at least the same from MB.
On any diesel engine, 50,000 miles is just about run in.
