Hi all,

I was all set to buy a 65 plate c220d, but the dealer has an indentical c250d on a 66 plate for only a bit more money.

I was happy with the c220d but I was wondering if you guys would recommend the more powerful unit? I understand the Co2/road tax is the same, and the fuel consumption almost identical, but 30+ horses more.

Any advice please?

Thanks.

Yes get the 250. They are like chit off a stick compared to the 220. The extra 100 nm makes alot of difference. Esp when in sports mode.

I went for a c250d. :) and it is nice.
there is quite a big power increase between the 2 (204hp?) in the C250d vs 177hp in the c220d

the later 2L 220d is closer at 197hp, but will likely be first registered later than April17 and therefore fall into the £450 RFL bracket rather than £120/yr

how much money for the C250D? my 66 plate C250d estate (first registered Nov 16) with premium plus pack and some extra interior bits at 13k miles was £23K two months ago

More is better as I found out yesterday overtaking 5 cars in the same amount of seconds [emoji6]

Well thats a pretty universal praise for the c250d! Hopefully it won't be sold by saturday and I can swap the deposit. Only trouble is it comes with the stock 18 inch AMG wheels and the 220d comes with the 19". I will look to buy some DRC DLA 19 c63 replicas instead which are lovely! DRC DLA Black Polished Face Alloy Wheels

Thanks a lot all.

The 19" rims look good, but not so good at potholes as 18" rims.

My S204 wallowed on 16's and is loads better on 17's, but personally I would not go any bigger - you sacrifice ride quality due to the thinner sidewalls, plus the tyres are laods more expensive and you're more prone to kerbing. All so you car looks more bling to passers by at the expense of those inside the car - IMHO!!:D:D

Very overlooked physics is increased unsprung mass - bigger alloys = heavier wheels so a suspension damper is not as effective hense also a loss in ride quality , plus other dynamic unsprung mass losses .

Several negatives to one positive .

17 & 18" are sweetspots .

250 for sure!

I say E350. 6 cylinders any day of the week.

Bigger car though... I would have liked a 3.0 V-6 Diesel version of our car, but not an option..

Thanks for all replies.

When I got there alas the 250 was already gone. So I got the 220d. I am happy with it and planning some mods to the trim and other bits. Car looks great and the wheels are factory new.

It is very comfortable on good roads but as posts state, a bit bouncy on poor roads.

I'm really happy to be a mercedes owner for the first time.

I much appreciate all the comments and posts. Thanks.

Edit: I don't mind missing out on the more powerful car as although only a little more expensive to run, it's a daily bad traffic communter, so it will add up. And as I'm an all mouth and no trousers kind of guy, I'm happy it looks good with the 19s. Don't care so much about power!

Nice, congrats! :)
The C220d is still a nice car and performs well enough. Enjoy.

Just purchase a '5' and 'AMG' badge
