C230k vs Honda type-R vs VR6

Yup... a bit of the old "my dad's dog is bigger that your dad's dog".....well I think the saying was something to do with dogs.........

i kinda posted in this section cuz it seems as if "Driving incidents and road rage" is where'd i'd post this sort of thing. We were on a dual carriage way without any proper pavements for pedasrtrians to walk on, and it leads onto a certain motorway. No "kids are going to run out infront of my car" cuz there simply aren't any. i aint posting it to say "oh look my car is faster than ur car" just sharing with u all what actually happened on that day, since it isn't everyday practice for me.

i found it fun anyway screw all u kill joys!

And yea if i wanted a FAST car i'd just wait for a few years for some extra NCB and buy an M5 .

With a mentality like that there is no point in pointing out the stupidity and immaturity of your actions and your post ............ so I wish you a happy and safe new year ........

Not impressive behaviour - whilst we all have nice cars (wouldn't be on here if we didn't) they have the potential to be killers if mistreated. I love good looking, fast cars but I believe there is a time and a place - and a public highway road racing is not one of them (bookable offence?). Road condititions, weather, crap on the road - control the controllables.
Think some should step outside of their little "no one can touch me" bubble and realise there are others on the road that can and will make mistakes causing horrendous outcomes, doesn't matter how good a driver is.

I want to race but plan to take my car (after future modification) to Santa Pod raceway where I can go as fast as I like safely. I think showing what your car can do on a public road is asking for trouble as, fast as your reactions are I'm sure, why risk the lives of some unsuspecting motorist. You say it was on a dual carriageway where no children were playing. Granted you may not get pedestrians but say there was slow moving traffic which you hadn't predicted. The outcome doesn't bear thinking about.

If you want to race then take yourself and your car somewhere like Santa Pod or the Nurburgring where nobody will bat an eyelid.

Not something I would condone as a matter of commonplace however I have been in similar situations - yes, brand me a girl racer (I'm not) but sometimes it is all too easy to "race" another car....there is a local bridge to me where there are booths you stop at and head straight onto a dual carriageway and I have seen many a race from this point.

Be safe not sorry! :)

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" comes to mind. We all know its dangerous and irresponsible to race, we also know that most of us have raced or tested our cars on a public road.

Time to acknowledge both sides of this particular coin and move on.

Keep Safe

Happy New Year!

You have to race everyone off the Tamar bridge, it's the law :D

Yep, me and an SLK230 showed a clean pair of heels to everyone today and didn't even break the speed limit! :D

I once had a 'race' with a barried up Citroen Saxo against my Chimaera. The 'race' lasted about half a mile, whereupon I reached the right angle at the bottom of the (perfectly straight and open) road, looked in my mirror, and saw that the Saxo hadn't yet got a 1/3rd of the way down the road.

The 'race' was only prompted by his inability to keep a safe distance behind me on the road we'd turned off beforehand. Annoying little twunt.

Be cafeful, dont under estimate the civic. I was amazed when I was in Nav's (klp 92) 560sec accelerating at full throtle, a civic pulled past us like we were standing still. Turns out a jackson supercharger is quite a popular mod, getting horsepower up to ~400bhp!!

Im having a bit of fun on motorways at the moment, people pull up behind me flashing lights when Im in the E36 thinking its just an old rust bucket (well its not looking too impressive yet), but plant your right foot down and it shifts!
I know we shouldnt do it, but admit it or not, when prevoked you do tend to use the some of the power available. Else we would all be driving base engines of each model available

The VR6 lost on all 3 attempts, only by very little, but he did definately lose. I also used to think c230k's weren't fast (before i bought it) cuz of all the 0-60 vids i saw on youtube. But then when i test drove this manual version, it was quite torquey, and i knew it couldn't be 0-60 in 8 sec, cuz i could that quite easily in my old c200 which was bloody old and knackered.
Both drivers did roll their windows down and state their shock... but i felt quite confident from the start... I've driven alot of cars and i dont fear naturally aspirated 2.5-2.8's, cuz they feel less torquey then this car (i was also looking at a BMW 5.28 before this car).

All in all i'd say c230's are quite underestimated.. and i'm definately gonna uprate the horsepower when i get the chance to cause more jaws to drop :P

Most people are quite shocked when the c230k takes off - they usually think that it is just a normal "lazy slow merc" by looking at it, but it really drives totally different to the rest of the w202s. (Apart from the AMG models).

I have owned and driven different W202 models including the V6 C280 and the 230k is by far the best "drivers car" in the range.

I have a c230k with the sprintbooster fitted, and that basic mod makes the car take off like a rocket and totally transforms the way it lays down the power.

Suggest you fit the sprintbooster - makes a massive difference to the way the car pulls. Its a relatively cheap mod at £150 when you get the discount for being a member here, and its worth every penny.

I planned to sell it this year and move into something else but to be honest, for the money, I really can't think of anything that could substitute it....its great fun to drive.

its not clever to post about racing on a public road. Maybe your post would have been different or non-existant if you had crashed.

good luck in your modding cuz i just kno u wanna get oot there and mod ur ride.

There are a lot of people out there who dont know how to drive the Civic Type R I've had one for almost 5 years now, while far from the fastest car on the road it does go well with one of the best gearboxes i've ever experienced. It does however need to be worked properly 8250rpm in each gear and it shifts. Never driven a CLK230 however have driven an SLK230 and the Civic round knockhill and there was only one clear winner :o

If we're talking traffic light Gran Prix then on a wet surface a 1.0 micra will pass the civic on standard tyres the Bridgestone Potenza's are terrible almost dangerous in the wet!

The roads are slippy as hell at the moment, greasy/icy, book yourself into a track day and put your car through its paces.
