Hi all.

I just had a go at cleaning my MAF (is it the unit attatched to the airbox?), and found a bit of "burned" oil on the airfilter, and in the tubes that go from the airfilter to the top. There was not any oil in the tube to the kompressor, only in the small tubes from the top! My idle is a little unsteady - do I have a serious problem.

Greetings fom Denmark.

Christian ,

First thing, welcome on board ....

I have no idea of the solution to your kompressor problem , but there are people on here who will , however it is Saturday night and i expect most of them are out ....;)

Probably the best thing to do is not drive it any more until someone has replied to your thread that knows what it is ..... in case you damage something more

Have a couple of beers instead and watch the telly and try and forget about it for now ......

Good luck

H

From your description, I am not sure you actually were cleaning the MAF although I could be wrong. The MAF on the C230 Kompressor is located in a different location than most C Class. If you are looking from the front of the car back toward the engine, it is just to the right and a little back from the radiator.

In regard to the supercharger, if your car has problems which cause certain error codes to be produced, the car's computer can stop the supercharger from engaging as a safety precaution. Also, make sure you didn't disconnect any of the vacuum lines. This can cause errors. They are easy to knock off when messing around the airfilter box.

The following are good reading, but remember, your MAF is probably in a different location from these pictures (but the MAF looks the same and the procedure to change it is basically the same);

Thanks a lot! I will give it a go.

Found out I forgot to put back on the connector on the unit right after the airbox - stupid danes!!

Cleaned the MAF - not located where i thought :). A bit of oil in the pipe over the MAF!!? Just like there was in the airbox. Not much, just a thin cover. Still have the not quite stable idle. Any ideas??

If your MAF has been really off, it may have resulted in fouled plugs. Have you taken them out and made sure they are clean?

Plugs clean!

My problem is:

Cleaned MAF on my ´98 230K, and found a thin cover of oil in tube over the MAF - other than that the MAF looked like new. I also found a bit of burned/old oil on the air filter, and in the tubes between airfilter and top!!
My idle fluctuates between 750 - 800 r/pm - should it not be more stable?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Going to change airfilter today.

Greetings form Copenhagen!

Fluctuating idle could be something like idle control valve sticking a bit or Lambda sensor getting lazy.

Thanks! Do you know you know where the icv is located on the 230k.
