C270 cdi
Hi
took my car to local indi he wants
£750 to repair manifold . I asked
him if he would remove flaps but no
Said you carnt do that ? WDM perry bar.
Does anyone know who would remove
the flaps . I have been told car will run
ok with out them.

There are many posts on these boards reporting that after flap removal the engine runs perfectly well. The shut off motor is then refitted in its original position and the electric plug connected but the rod linkage disconnected (as there is now nothing to connect it to)

I renewed my inlet manifold (6 hour job) but if i'd known then what i know now i would have just removed the flaps and saved myself £300, which was the cost of the new manifold.

Need to find some one who will remove flaps
Not just charge me for new manifold
Any ideas please.Unable to do this myself
So will have to pay someone to do job
For me but dont want new manifold

The obvious thing to do is to give your location so that any indies nearby to you can advise.

I live in aldrige just outside Birmingham ,
Went to one indi in Birmingham wdm
Anyone know anyone else?

Problem you might have is the extra work the Indi would have to do cleaning and modifying your old manifold. You could find it's not cost efficient against having a new manifold. I believe Mercedes used to do a manifold repair kit (new flaps etc) but stopped producing it as the extra time took repairing the manifold just burnt up any saving fitting new part. When l did mine, modifying the manifold took more time than removing it.

Thank you for all your help.
Looks like new manifold
other wise indi won't touch it.

I sold my old manifold for £25 to another forum member, he bought it so that he could 'modify' it by removing the flaps, etc in advance so that it was a straight changeover job when he removed his old one.

Might be an idea to put an ad up for someone selling their old manifold......surely your indi will do a straight 'swapover' once you have already prepared a manifold?

Thanks that's worth a try

There are a couple of indi's on the "other side" who will do this, dont think they are near midlands though.

Hi what parts do I need to buy Ie gaskets seals
To do this job , my daughters boyfriends bro said
he would do it for me he is a BMW tec ,next couple
of weeks, also is it main dealer for parts only. ?

You will need inlet manifold gasket set. I got mine from main dealer l think they were somewhere around the 20 pound mark. You really need to look up the forum threads/posts on doing this job and read the link on my original post. You will need coolant as well unless your mechanic is able to save it in some way. 16mm thread rod or bolts and tap to put threads in holes left by flap removal. I did not remove my actuator motor, just disconnected the linkage so motor is still 'working' but not actually doing anything. I know it could pack up in the future but touch wood its still going after 18 months. Also get some very good cleaning fluid for removing all the muck you will find in the manifold after removal.
