C280 sport (estate)
Hi guys :-)

Just bought a V reg c280 sport (auto estate) and thought I would say hi ...... ermmmmm, hi :-)

I am looking to take delivery on Tuesday but on the test drive I couldnt help feeling dissapointed with the performance.

What I here you say? You werent happy with the car but you bought it anyway?? Fool!!

Let me explain - I used to drive a heavily modified Toyota/Lexus Soarer (478 bhp) until the birth of my daughter made me change my priorities to saftey from speed.

I also decided to move to a rural area for better schools and so traded my Soarer in for a new Landcruiser (bought a farm - thought I would keep up with the stereotype!).

Anyway, the wife killed the Landcruiser last week (took on a bridge and lost - she was fine, not even a bruise - but caused £16k damage to 4x4) so we needed a new vehical.

Wanted something safe, semi good on fuel and with a bit of umph - after numerous visits to various dealerships, decided on Mercedes and eventualy the c280 sport :-)

Did the test drive thing and was impressed by everything apart from the performance (dissapointed - thought that it would have ermmm, more!) and made my mind up there and then - she had to come home with me :-)

Anyway, enough of the babble................. which mods would you guys recommend to give the best bang for buck?? ecu remap? exhaust? chip? induction kit?

Incerdently, what is the standard stats for the c280 estate (0-60 etc)??

Cheers

J.

NB: Nice looking site :bannana:

Is it an automatic? If so there is a button on the floor under the accelerator. When you floor it all the way you get like a double kickdown................try that first, then chip it, add a k and n filter, run it on optimax, then fit a sports exhaust, then a turbo (like koolvin) then NOS. If none of that does it for you...........sell the car!

Hi there and welcome :)

I must say that in all honesty, there aren't many MB models that have a fast-track (and economical) way of releasing any significant power - other than for some of the turbodiesels etc.

I hate to say it, but if it were me I'd either live with the performance for now and see if you get used to it, or look at it as a stop-gap to a C43 (they have really come down in price ~ £10Kish)

MBs tend to perfom better for motorway driving etc. The C280 is something around 8ish seconds 0-60 and a top speed of 140ish from memory. With that V6, overtaking and mid-range acceleration (say 50-100 etc - on the autobahns ;) ) should be pretty good compared to most cars on the road.

Hope you enjoy the new car, and try and see if you can live with the general performance for a while, once this is out of the way I think you'll get along fine :)

Good Luck,

Will

And one last thing - have you compared it to any other C280s - just in case your's is not performing as it should - eg faulty MAF sensor etc?

Just a thought... ;)

I've driven a Soarer TT and theres no question that the throttle response on the C-class can make the car feel tardy as it has a long travel pedal. You do get used to it however. The V6 is no fireball and needs to be reved to get into the power band.
