Hi folks. just wondering how much in petrol it's going to cost me from leicester to Holy Head. its 200 miles. I was going to go on bike which gives 50 mpg but i know my c280 is going to be half that probably. Its a long run though and i wont do over 70 and i have a very very light right foot. Cheers, T.

Whilst not wishing to appear rude or unhelpful surely you can work this out knowing your own car and the fuel it uses in mixed driving and simply looking at the distance involved and the average price of fuel?

Well DSM i have never done a long run over 15 miles therefore i am asking on here other c280 owners. Is that OK ? Tony.

I would guess that your 15 mile trips are in built up areas and not motorway cruising Tony ? My previous E280 (a heavier car than your C280) was useless around town, but given a chance to stretch it's legs could achieve 31mpg on a decent run. I would estimate you should get a minimum of 35mpg, so 200miles around 6 gallons @ circa £6 a gallon reckon on £35 - £40.
My estimate only, so don't leave the house with a nearly empty fuel tank and only £40 in your pocket:doh:

Well Google maps will not only calculate the distance but give you 3 routes and tell you the fuel costs!

Close to my figures which I did before seeing above.

My E320 coupe (1995 124) would do 32 mpg.

At 137 pence per litre, equals £38.93p

Well folks thanks for your replies. It wasn't the actual cost that i needed someone to calculate as i have half a brain it was just the mpg on a long run i wanted answers for. Cheers, Tony.

It would be a difficult choice regarding bike or car. A lot of the journey is Motorway and A roads but once deep into Wales and up towards Anglesey the bike would be more fun. The only thing to bear in mind is the weather forecast as it can be pretty fierce there and high winds and heavy rain would not be so much fun on two wheels :)

Sometimes it is worth paying for the extra fuel for the comfort of being able to turn the heater up and be dry :)

well mate you have taken the words right out of my mouth and i'm now booked on the Holyhead ferry in my car. Weather has taken a real turn and i'm far to old to get cold and wet these days. Apart from that my bike would get filthy and not having that, T. PS its costing £180.00 extra for me and the car over my bike. What a rip off.

Also the police force in wales operate strictly no tolerance policy, I once got done for 3mph over the 30mph limit !! :wallbash:

Is £180 the extra cost of taking the car on the ferry compared to the cost of taking the motorcycle? How much just for a motorcycle and rider?

I suppose for each car they could take at least 4 motorcycles in which case it would make sense in terms of maximising revenue?

Yep the Welsh police certainly are "Pigs" Or is it sheep. Bahhhhh Bahhhhhh

No they are people like you, like me and with the same human frailties all of us have.

There are also serving (and probably retired Police Officers) that contribute to this forum.

They do a job that is sometimes difficult, sometimes dangerous and sometimes it even costs them their lives so denigrating all Welsh Police Officers with a childish, ignorant and undeserved insult really is quite unacceptable.

All that concluded then chaps is it ? hahh. So the consensus it then i will get about 35 mpg on a long run. Ahhh not too bad then. Cheers T.
