The garage are saying that my ECU may be the problem with my car.

The cost from mercedes to buy a new ECU is £1345+VAT
Part number A1121538879
The part is only available to order from Germany.

Anyone have any suggestions on options other than direct from mercedes?

Breakers yard or perhaps get the existing one rebuilt/repaired by one of the several specialist electronic repair companies.e.g. BBA reman. ABS, ecu's, throttle bodies, air mass meters, and catalytic converters

should be about 1/2 price of a new one with a warranty. Make sure you address the problem that caused it to fail in the first place= short circuits/failed components in the low/high tension ignition systems/wiring --a good rebuild company should make you aware of this possibility .

hi, a second hand one will be of no use, as they are coded to the car, and cannot be recoded, your one repaired (as previously mentioned) or new are your only options, is this a main dealer telling you this? What were/are the symptons? As its quite rare for one of these to fail IMO

Hi Thanks for the responses,

The problem started as a ESP error car has been in and investigated and there is a problem with comunication with the ECU.
ECU has been away for repair and they have said it is not repairable.

Seems like my only option is a large bill at the dealer

Never had any problems previously

Hi,
How about an exchange? This lot seem to offer that type of service, not sure how coding would take place though..

Worth a call??

Automotive ECU suppliers
