Oh dear I have just found out my speed limiter does not work :bannana:. Not the one you can fiddle with and set at 55 in those adv speed zones but the main one .... This car just makes me smile each time i drive it .. I found out not on the public road of corse :D.

It may well have had a remap that would have included Vmax limiter removal, are you running a stock pulley??

I know Evolve do a decent pulley upgrade with one of their C32 tunes.

But your car may have had this carried out already.

Maybe of interest to you fella.

Evolve Automotive C32 AMG

The engine has standard pulleys the only mod at present is a intercooler isolation kit from needs wings , and a cm30 water pump , and to be fitted with a pulley saver kit from the same people , a pully kit will be on the to do list after I have sorted the ARBs out ...

Nice, seems like you are going about it methodically.

You will have one quick C32, when you are done.:thumb:

What speed did you reach you naughty boy? :D

It must of had a remap unless someone spent a fair bit of cash just removing the limiter.

Yeah, does seem strange, I guess there is only one sure way to find out and that is to go to someone who is familiar with the appearance of the stock C32 file and let them read his current file and see if all the tables/parameters within the file are absolutely stock or have been tweaked..

I have done , and the programme was standard exept for the limiter which has been changed . Now I am glad I missed the remap last weekend as I was out of the country as that may have reinstated the limiter ....

Every new car should have the following.

90 mph speed limiter
0-60 in 10 seconds or more acceleration limiter

penalty for messing with them, crush the car.

a diesel driver would say that

I'd crush all the ones that can't do 90 mph and can't do less than a 10 second 0 - 60 mph, that way we could get some crap off the road and all get where we are going faster :D

When will people realise speed does not kill

A 90 mph speed limiter would potentially be a killer itself on the Frankfurt - Mainheim Autobahn where +240 kph speeds are the norm

Probably a few months after people who drive at speeds "faster than they can see and react", e.g. beyond their ability, stop causing accidents, injuries and deaths on the roads.

Now perhaps you'd like to explain why insurance companies don't give large premium discounts for modding your car, remapping, removing limiters, etc etc.

In the spirit of full disclosure, cars are 20+ years behind bikes on this subject, and 20+ years ago myself and another guy ended up challenging each other.

A race from Roscoff to Monevassia down on the Peloponnese.

My steed was a 74" HD shovel with a SU carb, good for maybe 110 mph if you wanted to shake to pieces.

His choice of steed was a just run in Kwack Z11 injection, good for 140 mph all day.

I won, by the simple tactic of being able to stay longer in the saddle and having greater fuel endurance, and when we compared notes I'd averaged a fraction over 70 mpg, and he managed 27 mpg... and he had to stop and buy a new rear boot in Torino.

Tortoise & Hare

edit, he also nearly killed himself, in his own words, "about once every 20 miles" as soon as he hit the Greek "tarmac"..

I can only do one of those and it's not the latter. Unfortunately, dictating what cars people drive will not affect how they drive. When I saw my "test drive" an RR sport on a friends and family day out, she flung it into corners as if she was driving the little polo she used to rally / track day in. That's how she drives most cars. Needless to say events did take place, several people were very scared, and she has not been put off her driving style, just the RR.

Don't forget the whole reason why our gov preaches that speed kills, is purely because there are irresponsible idiots who drive outside of their ability and that of the car. Kids, people my age and younger, will always floor it despite not having the experience to deal with it. I'm sure a mini metro will get to 90 if the driver really wants it to.

Now when does your policy come into effect? I'll have to make appropriate mods by then :D

Misfire, where did you go for the remap?

my diesel car will hold 125 mph all day and night.

so by ur contradicting statement, it should be crushed?

No, it should be speed limited to 90, like every other car. But my car is 20 years old, not new.

fact is, this wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to me. I got my speed / performance kicks years ago with motorbikes, only a handful of cars (still) on the planet can come close... 20 years ago you could put a turbo and 20 lbs of boost on the kawck thou engines, and run 300 bhp through the crank all day and all night, and that's with an all up weight of 450 lbs.

point being? uve had ur fun, so limit everyone else`s? the c32 posted is not a 20 year old car and is well capable of cruising above 90, engine power handling etc would also be more than capable as long as its in the right place to do that type of speed.

Which will not be anywhere in the UK on a public highway.

Yeah, I "had my fun", also got nailed for it by plod, so no, it's not hypocrisy.

obviously you didnt read the original post fully!?!

going round in circles here!

You just answered your own question. Speed without ability and Control Kills, Speed alone does not. As you correctly point out in paragraph 1 of your post.

My insurance company although not giving a discount for modding or mapping do not impose stupid excesses for this or driving high performance cars, because of my driving qualifications and abiity which is pretty useful being the director of a Motorsport Company :D
