Hi, I'm trying to find out some info on my recently purchased C class. It's very different to the normal C320 Avantgarde which is what it started out as. It is badged MaClaren, has a four pot exhaust, lowered suspension, tweaked engine and very special 18inch alloys. The man i bought it from informed me that Mercedes did all the work to the car to use as a show car in Germany. He also informed me that there were 2 or 3 others done at the same time. Any help you could give me finding out any more about this special car would be very much appreciated.

Hello and welcome.
You have a nice looking car. Perhaps you should contact Mclaren in Woking?

Simon

Welcome. Interesting mods - what has been done engine-wise?

Unfortunately the McLaren badge on the back looks nothing like the real McLaren logo so I doubt the guys in woking would be able to tell you anything about it.

Doesn't look too bad ....

never heard of it.
Nice car but the wheels are not my cup of tea. look like old porsche 924 wheels or alfa romeo wheels

Not sure where you found that one Howard but its not quite right either. Wrong typeface for starters :)

Try this for the real thing - off the side of an SLR

Note the typeface, spacing, and "flourish" at the end...

Yeah , saw all that , just grabbed the first one i found ...

Could be an older logo ( like BP did , just change it slightly ) ?

I see what you're getting at, and the typeface is of a similar style to the older McLaren logo as seen on the F1 road car, eg:-

However I remain to be convinced that the badge on Jordie's car is the genuine article... no offence Jordie :)

Did the seller mention anything about why it had a McLaren badge? Any supporting documentation with the car?

Whatever it's backgrund, it looks nice, and would appear to be unique. I would want to know more detail of the engine mods. Did the seller know or was he just a trader?

well the sound sure scared the pistons out of the scooby driver.
any pictures of the engine bay?

Is there any branding on the alloys or exhaust system?

Seller didn't know

No offence taken i'm just trying to find out as much as i can about my car. No docs supporting any of the mods.

Only way to be sure , if there are no docs ....

Put it on a dyno ;)

]

"flourish" at the end...

Thats a Kiwi Bird.

Although it morphed into a kind of Marboro sign type and into that modern looking flourish over the years, but is from the teams namesake and founder who was a new zealander.

Whatever the background, I actually like the look of it.

I am intrigued as to what the actual story to it is. The quad exhausts although perhaps normally a little ott have been done nicely IMO and actually are quite sutble and the wheels are difference but again look good to me.

So I am left thinking someone daft enough to stick a McLaren badge on the back of a car with no connection would have been unlikely to style a car so well, more likely it would be some sort of monstrosity.

I beleive we have seen a McLaren C43 before - something similar anyway.

Lets hope you get to the bottom of it and it is genuine. Either way I like it (but if it wasn't genuine would have to loose the badge).

Normally I'd say no chance, but I have a funny feeling about this one, might just be.

Hello and Welcome

How do you insure the car when they ask any modifications?

strange one but would be interesting to find out what its all about. Any plaques inside / on engine. Whats on the V5 is it called simply a C320 how about engine size has it been increase?

cheers
