Hi guys, I need help, when I start the car after a few seconds my glow plug warning light light up in my dash, it stays on for about 15 seconds then goes off, and some times comes back for a few seconds or even flashes up quickly , longest it stays on is about 20 seconds
Any ideas???

Mine just had the exact same fault. Turned out to be the glow plug module. Mine was replaced under warranty however I think there roughly £120. Have it checked a star first just to confirm if I was you.

It sounds like one of your glow plugs is broken. If the control module was broken, the dash light would stay on longer.

Who in slough or close to slough have the mercedes star diagnostics??

I went to a local garage, he had a snapon diagnostic tool, fault came up it was the glow plug module,, rang merc dealership , they quoted £116 ex VAT for the unit,,, so my next question is where is the relay situated ??

When glow plugs fail the light stays on

Is this something new on the later models then? 'Cos on my S203 when the gloiw plugs failed the light came back on for approx 30sec then went out again.

I just changed mine on my clk 270 and it's on the nearside inner wing near the suspension mount , thought maybe yours could be the same ? Doddle to change !

Yes , it's flashed again on my dash since he reset my car,

With mine the light came on after start up for approx 30 seconds then would flash intermittently. When I first approached the main dealers they told me it was a glow plug. ( not covered under their warranty so I would have to pay for plug and diagnosis). I know with late model Ford systems the glow plug stays on for a failed plug, so I used the same logic and got an independent to verify then went back to the main stealers with the print out.

Isn't it probably best to get it on a diag machine .my w210 e220 cdi had a failed glow plug, light would go out after a few seconds when key at position 2 as normal but once car started it would return for approx 30 secs then go out again .after the car had warmed up it would not come on again at all for the rest of the day presumably because the glow plugs were no longer cycling to start the car. I believe the glow plug light isn't only illuminated for glow plugs and if it flashes on and off occasionally when driving it may be indicating a totaly unrelated fault.

He has it came up as glow plug module fault

I have ordered the part now, just waiting for merc to get it delivered , I had a look in my engine bay, can't seem to find where the module goes,,

New one is smaller , took me 15 mins to fit, and no more warning light on dash and £140 lighter

Great result !

I have a similar issue on my E350 CDI Coupe 2010. I'll get the codes read today to confirm.

Can I ask you how your cold starts performed whilst you had this issue ?

Thanks in advance !
