I second that. They'll change the 'stat and the temperature, the gauge reading, and your fuel consumption, will all return to normal.Get booked in with PCS in Horndean. They really know their stuff and are competitively priced.
Cheers all.
I plugged in icarsoft and watched the water and oil temps: On a long idle it went up to 81 deg water (~88 on dash), 75 deg oil, then ran it at 70 mph and it immediately started to cool to around 62 deg water (~67 on dash), 65 deg oil. In 50 mph roadworks i saw 58 deg water, 62 deg oil.
Hopefully MB main dealer will fix it
Really appreciate the advice
I think the iCarsoft code reader has established that? How about keeping it simple and carefully remove the expansion tank cap (cloth over it ) and stick a thermometer in there.
Or even an IR temp reader on the hoses etc.
Will give you a better idea of the actually water temp vs the dash gauge.
"I can't go off that as it's not our readings. I drove around town and it was up to ttemp"
Diagnostics back from Merc dealer technician regarding my thermostat:
"There are no errors and the sensors and wiring are fine."
And what about the fact it runs cool on the motorway? I left a picture from the data logged in the code reader showing the water and oil at 60 deg or so.
"I can't go off that as it's not our readings. I drove around town and it was up to temp"
FFS
"And our health check says you need all new tyres and brakes"
Get away!?
At end of tether now. Is this proof we're living in a simulation matrix and this is the rather obscure glitch?
It gets up to temp (about 80) driving slowly or just left to tickover - cools down at speed (i.e. constant speed on the motorway) to 59-64 roughly, according to iCarsoftSo, is this the only, single incident of the car getting up to temperature over the last few weeks. And it only did it when you weren't in the car?
I know, I'm not disagreeing, I'm trying to find a MB tech who'll believe me and fix it!An aging thermostat will open sooner than it's meant to , one day it'll just stay open . If your so concerned don't listen to mb techs , have it changed , because one things certain ,with a new stat it'll open at 90 and stay there. People on here Inc myself have changed the thermostat themselves at some point , and are giving you good advice.

What do I do? I suppose I need to just say "I disagree, change it", but that seems rude when a man with decades of experience says its fine!
