C350e tripping RCD

Guys I'm sure you are aware of this but over on the EV forum there is a massive problem with Rolec 32 amp home chargers tripping the RCD, involves all sorts of different cars too so looks like the problem could be with the charge points not the cars

VW recommend PodPoint due to previous charging issues

Just thought I'd post in case you were not aware

Thanks Flango, interesting, especially if its only the 32amp boxes rather the than the 16amp units.

The reason I knew it was the car, not the wall unit, is that the car tripped every charging point that I used, including the MB dealers (non Rolec) charging station, and with all three charging capable options.

Since I have had it back my home Rolec unit is completely fine, as is the circuit at work, so in this particular situation I can confirm 100% that it is the car and not the Rolec wall unit.

Alas it looks like the car has got to go back in again next week as it has stopped transmitting Mercedes Me data from the day it went into the dealer to replace the charging loom:crazy:

Don't think that picture includes the data transmission hardware which is in a separate box detailed in the linked thread. In other units I think its integrated.

There is no more than about £60 worth in the photo. The government grant is/was a rip off in my opinion. We bought 2 Rolecs for use at work and they were about £365 each IIRC. A rip off for a plastic box with 3 components in.
I was just going to use the 13A charger with mine then I found a new Chargemaster one on Ebay for £50 + £10 postage. Its en route so hope its ok. I just need the car now to plug into it. Roll on end of the Month.

Mine went into Mercedes Leeds for the same issue on Wednesday. Had a call from them Wednesday Afternoon stating I needed a new high voltage charger and cabling. They couldn't tell me what was wrong with them (I suspect water ingress).
Parts are on back order with no ETA...
They don't want to give my car back as they feel it maybe dangerous! THey don't want to take a risk on it probably due to High Voltages present. (No faults showing on the Dash though).
In the meantime, I am in a C220 Bluetec AMG Line (none Premium) which feels totally unrefined compared to the C350e Sport Premium+. Missing lots of kit too. Black Interior isn't as nice as Crystal Grey.

So my car went in to Leeds on 2nd Marc and I was told it could be ages before it's fixed as parts were on back order.

However, suprisingly the parts arrived on 9th March and I got the car back on 11th March. Kudos to Mercedes Leeds for the quick turnaround. They had escalated to Germany that I was without a car as the engineer deemed my car as not safe to drive...

The charging cable, charger and HV battery were changed. I have no idea why they ended up changing the battery! even the rep in Mercedes Leeds couldn't advise. I don't know if the fitted parts are any different or not though...

Received C350e in December. 6 weeks ago, charger kept tripping out. Car has been at garage for 4 weeks as no way of charging apart from braking etc. Am now advised that a new charger unit will be ordered. Hopefully MB resolve solution as, if the issue is water ingress, I expect a repeat in some months (depending on the British summer weather).

Mine goes in for repair/replacement parts tomorrow. Dealer says it should take a day to a day an a half so fingers are crossed I get it back quick without any problems.

I've had the boot floor up and discretely marked the components and cables I can get to in an attempt to see if I can identify the parts that are replaced.

Mine was at the dealer yesterday for a replacement battery and cabling.

Was told it was definitely a one day job and I would get it back but when I rang I was informed that the technician was following "procedure" and it would now probably be Monday before I had it back.

Now driving an A class and not best pleased as going away for the weekend.

It's the third time it's been in the shop and i'm pretty sure they are learning on the job when it comes to the hybrid drive train.

Not good - hope they get it sorted for you.

Update.

Mine goes in for repair/replacement parts tomorrow. Dealer says it should take a day to a day an a half so fingers are crossed I get it back quick without any problems.

Well, mine went in yesterday morning and I got it back within the day. I knew it was fixed before they rang as I'd been keeping an eye on the charge state during the day and when I saw it rise from 13% to 26% without moving I knew it must be charging from a socket.

I drove from Northampton to Leeds this afternoon and during a stop at Donnington services I thought I'd give it a go on an Ecotricity charger whilst I had lunch. Monitoring the car from the app, it reported that the car was not plugged in or charging and when I got back to the car the charging station also said 0kwh charge so I feared the worst.

After unplugging and starting to charge though, the car had risen from about 20% to 54% so had clearly charged. I wonder now whether it will charge without registering on the charger? That could be interesting on the Chargemaster stations! Free charging?

I'll see what happens next week when I'm back at work and can try the Rolec socket in our site car park.

When I get chance I'll take the boot floor up again and see if I can identify what has been changed.

My 2 month old C350e PremPlus saloon went in yesterday as would not charge from external source. Dealer wants the car back in for 3 days to fix fault and also discovered it was leaking coolant! Enquired re the elusive outside temperature gauge and was told that the fact it was missing was probably linked to the charging issue - come on Mercedes!

Someone asked the question about the temp gauge on Twitter. Response from MB would suggest that it's not really got anything to do with the charging issue.

I found this thread and am concerned!!!
yesterday monrning I came out at 5.45am thinking my car would be nice and warm for the drive to the airport, but the battery was on 9% as it had not charged.
I thought it could be me, and left it until I got home at 7.30pm. Put the car on charge. Socket locked, white light went out, and.....NOTHING!!!!
Was exhausted, but decided to press the MB button and spoke to somebody who said they would send out assistance.
Carried on playing with the car, switching on and off the ignition.
Thought I would try one last time to charge, and hey presto, it worked.
This morning I unplugged the charger, locked the car, and then went through the process again and it charged.
Am I about to experience the same problem as a lot of you??
Having had the car off the road for 7 1/2 weeks whilst they replaced the gearbox I really don't want to have it off the road again long term.

I also asked for the Outside Temp to be added, but nothing. Will Tweet MB again.

I've had my 350e for just under a month and started to experience similar issues.

Charging works sometimes and sometimes shows the charging error message.
