C43 AMG Coupe

Well the C43 arrives on Monday so it’s getting pretty exciting which is a nice distraction from all the death and destruction caused by Covid-19.

Lol, I’ve been “holding on” the last four years! Was hoping for a more relaxing drive from the C43?!?!?
In my experience, almost all AMGs are good at playing both Jekyll and Hyde. I don’t think I’ve driven a 43/53 but every 32/55/63 I have ever driven can do docile urban crawl and relaxed cruise as well as they can drive in “on it” mode. The dial starts at zero and goes past eleven, ie there’s a clear difference between the extremes. I can’t see the 43 being any different.

The only exception I’ve found are the 45 cars, they’re always in turbo-nutter mode, their dial starts at nine and goes let eleven! I had been waiting for more than a year for the A45 to launch so I could get one for work, but having driven one I decided that it wasn’t right for me. Great fun and ferociously fast, but it felt like you couldn’t ever amble along or cruise, you had to be “on it” 100% of the time.

Enjoy your new car, it will be great. Don’t forget the photos!

Yeah, I've watched a lot of the reviews on YouTube and that does seem to be the general opinion "it can be the quiet luxury ride of a Mercedes but when you want it to, it can be an animal too".

Just received some images from the dealership....

Not the night pack so intend to get rid of the aluminium ASAP. Might give it a go myself whilst we're on lock down with some 3M vinyl tape. On a plus side, it doesn't have the red seat belts and seat stitching which I'm not keen on. Only issue I have is the gloss black on the interior rather than the ash wood grain which I loooooove.

I think that looks great just the way it is, especially if costs the same as the C300 you had ordered. Lovely!

Thanks Bobbly. Yeah, I'll take a view when it arrives but I have an aversion to chrome, although in this case it's aluminium I think. The first thing I did on my current vehicle was remove all the chrome but I had an Audi A5 Cabriolet before that with the aluminium surround around the front windscreen which looked awesome. If it looks classy then I'll leave as is. I had already arranged for the C300 to be "de-chromed" as night pack aren't available as an option with them like they are now for the C43 so once lock down is over I could just take it in to be done.

Thanks mate. Keep looking at the images. Only started looking at the C43 a week or so ago. Never made a car decision this quickly. Usually takes me around a year!

Lol i can see why you keep looking at the images. Stunning looking car. Congrats, I bet you can't wait to collect it.

NEWSFLASH!! Apparently there’s been a cancellation so they are now able to transport it to me this Friday!!

It'll be a Happy Friday indeed. Looks Fab. Good luck

So today is the big day but I may have discovered why this car is so cheap. It seems the person that specced it up forgot to tick the ‘black ash wood trim’ box so it’s got the piano black without analogue clock.

Joking aside, I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed/annoyed. One of the main reasons I love the Mercs of recent years is the interiors and specifically the black ash wood trim. Also, I asked about the interior trim and was sent the brochure image showing the black ash wood with analogue clock. The biggest issue though is that the piano black doesn’t wear well so I’m just wondering what my options are here. I’m not going to spend £500 on a new black ash console so I’m thinking either a carbon fibre wrap or clear ppf tape to protect the piano black trim. Would appreciate thoughts on this. I don’t want to cheapen the look of the interior but feel if I do nothing it will soon get scratched and look terrible.

I was the opposite to that in the past as I didn’t like the wood finishes, so always looked for piano black. However on my current CLS it has the dark ash finish which has made me a convert. So now I like both.

With piano it does show any fine lines / scratches more easily, but once a year these can be lightly polished to reduce visible lines. The other option if you like the finish is as you say to wrap them.

Thanks Cyclone, I’m going to cover it one way or another be it clear protection or a carbon finish. Will wait to until I’ve seen it before I decide.
