C43 AMG Coupe

So today is the big day but I may have discovered why this car is so cheap. It seems the person that specced it up forgot to tick the ‘black ash wood trim’ box so it’s got the piano black without analogue clock.

Joking aside, I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed/annoyed. One of the main reasons I love the Mercs of recent years is the interiors and specifically the black ash wood trim. Also, I asked about the interior trim and was sent the brochure image showing the black ash wood with analogue clock. The biggest issue though is that the piano black doesn’t wear well so I’m just wondering what my options are here. I’m not going to spend £500 on a new black ash console so I’m thinking either a carbon fibre wrap or clear ppf tape to protect the piano black trim. Would appreciate thoughts on this. I don’t want to cheapen the look of the interior but feel if I do nothing it will soon get scratched and look terrible.

I know exactly what you mean. I too prefer the black ash for visual and practical reasons.

Why don’t you just live with it for a wee while and see how it wears? If you decide you’re still not happy then maybe a wrap or stump up the £500 for the Ash console. When you consider the purchase price of the car what’s another £500?

Good luck for today. What time is it due?

Enjoy the car, very exciting distraction given the current lockdown situation.

Not a fan of the black ash, but the piano finish is prone to visible marking. A carbon wrap would make it look very nice for a fraction of the cost of replacing parts.

i thought the same when viewing a house online a few weeks ago.

detached house in 2 acres of ground
3 reception rooms
4 Bedrooms
2 En-suites
large master bathroom
Downstairs W.C. NO chain

£660k

I’ll get me coat. :)
No chain in the WC? It must be a posh Buck Rogers push button affair. Nice.

I'd prefer to put a layer of clear protection on it so that it doesn't get damaged. I can't do anything about it right away due to lock down so will see how I like it over next few weeks and always have the option of carbon. Defo don't want to drop £500 plus to swap for wood so I can't be that bothered by... yet.

No idea what time it's due. The driver of the transporter should call me when they are an hour away. I'm just a little excited and trying to concentrate on work but I think today is going to be a write off.

Agreed. Definitely a good distraction. These last few months have been crazy stressful and worrying. I feel kind of guilty for being excited today with whats going on in the world and the amount of people affected but I really didn't have a choice in getting a car so I'm going to make the most of something positive 👍

Thanks Cyclone, I’m going to cover it one way or another be it clear protection or a carbon finish. Will wait to until I’ve seen it before I decide.
The current spec is the black ash trim with clock. So to have piano black trim implies it was an early build car. When the car first came out it came with piano black as standard and black ash as an option. But they then changed the spec mid last year to black ash with clock.

My understanding is that it changed in Dec ‘19 for the C43. So after Dec ‘19 it came with black ash and clock as standard but prior to that it was gloss black with no clock. It’s different for non c43 in that they came with black ash and clock before and after Dec ‘19. My car was built mid ‘19. It’s pre Reg with 21 miles on the clock.

Very nice car!

Xpel make an interior wrap and it is worth the money. I had my gloss black trim which I initially regretted ordering covered in the last car (an S205 C Class) after having it 12 months and it covered all the marks and looked fantastic for the remaining 3.5 years I owned it.

I don't like the open pore wood trim, It also goes grubby (from oily fingers) and is difficult to clean, if you spill anything on it (eg coffee or soft drinks), then its almost impossible to get it out of the pores without some form of steam cleaning as rubbing at it makes it shiny. I wouldn't bother with carbon wrapping, it will look like you are trying too hard, the optional carbon in the C class is really good quality and it wont look as good.

Build date was Aug/Sep'19 as per details on Oasis so it MY20 rather than the current MY20.5 👍
That makes sense. I ordered my C43 Estate in March 2019. It was built in August 2019 and delivered in September. I ordered the black ash as an option along with privacy glass and leather seats. By the time my car was built, these were all standard equipment. So the cost of my car went down!! Well it did until I added the HUD :)

It gives other people something positive to think about too, so enjoy it, don’t feel bad.

Guessing it’s arrived. Have fun! Safely

The Xpel wrap sounds perfect. I’ll try and source one ASAP. Agree on the carbon wrapping. My current car has carbon trim and it’s absolutely beautiful so a carbon wrap would possibly make the MB interior feel fake/tacky.

Yes, it did arrive and I’ve had a bit of a drive and spent some time figuring things out. Still scratching my head about a few things. No hard driving yet though as there’s a sticker in the windscreen stating not to rev higher than 4,500 or drive faster than 85mph until 1,000 miles have been covered.
