As per the manual, I believe 10W/40 is recommended with 10W/60 for "sporty" driving. Anyone using 10W/60 in any of the new (3 valve generation) V8 MBs? Mobil1 or Castrol RS?

I have noticed that it has used 0,5 litre over the last 1500 km which annoys me quite a bit, but I suppose it is still well within the limits?

Think Castrol RS 10w-60 is your practical choice, not sure if Mobil1 comes in that spec.

Never quite sure why people get really hung up about the 0, 5 or 10 in the W bit as that is measured at 40C. Important to avoid start up wear due to slow circulation but what really matters at very low temperature is the pour point of the oil, which you will only find in the spec sheets. I

But when it comes to the other end of the scale, the "60" bit in a 10w-60 means it is going to be thicker than "10w-40" at 100C, which is why it is used in racing and may help your oil consumption issue.

My mate who runs old cars uses the Castrol Classic service and they will also source the 10w-60 for you or any obscure Castrol product.

Doing a deal on RS 10w-60 at the moment, £27.99 for 4 litres, £99.96 for case (4 lots of 4 litres) inc VAT delivered FOC UK mainland

Perhaps some kind Admin might want to arrange a group buy?

Er chaps, our man is in Belgium?!!

Thanks Greg :)

Actually, that is a good price for the 10W/60! Have been using that on my last two cars (Alfa 164 24V and BMW M Coupe) with good results, and it has a nice smell too

Will investigate a bit further, but thanks for the replies!

The local parts-shop had an offer on Mobil1 5W/50:

4 litres @ £33 or 16 litres @ £70 :bannana:

Needless to say that I got 16 litres, and I am quite pleased with the improved cold start lubrication of the 5W specification at a very good price!

I quite like Millers SXX 10/40 and at £15 for 4 1/2 lts it suits my pocket. :D AND its semi synthetic.
